First let me start with my rig.
Epox 8RDA+ (NF2), AXP@2054Mhz, 1GB Ram, a couple hardrives, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, Promise Ultra 100 TX2 IDE Controller card, Win XP Pro.
I have my two optical drives (Lite-on 16x DVD + Newly acquired Lite-on 851s ) on the controller card.
I have replaced my old lite-on 16x burner with this new 851s combo drive.
My problem started last Christmas Break when I needed to backup some files, and I borrowed a 2x DVD-R Internal drive. In trying to get this drive recognized by nero I did some crazy stuff unfortunately I have totally forgotten what I did (it still never worked) but after I did what I did and reinstalled my CDRW drive on the controller card (I took out the internal dvd-r drive) I noticed it would burn horribly slow. (NOTE: DMA was working fine before I changed whatever I changed. I do remember disabling some service, but I don’t know what service that might have been).
The buffer reader in Nero would never stay at a full 99% like it used to. It would race up and down from 15~85% and what would normally be a 5 minute burn would take 11 minutes , even at 16X.
So I did something in December that messed with the once enabled DMA on my Promise IDE Controller.
I thought buying a new drive might 'fix' this problem. I kinda went without using my Burner for a while because it was going so slow and I would get frustrated not being able to solve the problem and write a CD at the drive’s full potential.
Now that a have a worthy piece of hardware (The 851s) I want to burn a cd @40x, not a slow 10x .
Please help me in this impossible task that is getting my DMA back on the controller card!
I am running windows XP and I have the latest drivers for the controller and chipset. My card has the latest BIOS. Moving the optical drives to the onboard controller is not an option.
Last night I 'uninstalled' (By software) the hardrive controller and rebooted and reinstalled it. Still the same sad results.
Sorry for the long, incongruent post, but I just want to enjoy my new piece of hardware!
PS: Please don't kill me if this question has been asked 10 times, but after doing some decent searches I haven't come up with much.
