Programs saying dvd burn complete but are blank?

hi, my brother last week purchased a toshiba dvd-rw it is model # sd-r5002 . so far we have been unsucessful in burning any dvds. i know how to burn them properly as I have my own dvd burner on my pc. here is the problem, first i tried to burn a dvd that has VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS i put them on nero clicked burn and it was fine, 100% done i clicked done the dvd popped out, i put the dvd back in to make sure it was done, just comes up as blank, so i saido k, i put it in the dvd-rom drive on his pc, blank also, put it in 3 other dvd players in the house, says blank disk or bad disk on some of the dvd players, went back on nero disc info said the media is blank, tried 3 other brands of dvd-r’s same thing, then tried nero 7 same thing, back to nero 6 same thing, dvd decrypter, same thing, roxio same thing, wondering how it can “Burn” but then be blank. the pc has no problems, its xp sp2, full virus scan once a day, same with spyware and we made sure we have the newest firmware on the dvd drive. anyone have any ideas how to make it actualyl burn, we arent burning simulations and on nero we click finalize as well as ive tried burning on 2x as well as 1x. then i converted the dvd files to iso and tried that, also tried just burning a data dvd full of mp3’s and other files still “blank” at least im not burning coasters lol cuz its not burning at all. this is very odd that the program is ‘burning’ the dvd and the drive lights up and stuff so it looks like its working, but after its done u can look at the bottom of the disk and tell it wasnt written, all my region settings are correct and everything so i have no idea whats going on

if someone can help that be great. thanks

I had the same problems once due to bad media. Problems with the lead in write. Another time it was a bad drive. I returned it the same day I bought it and got another one after it would not work in one of my other PC’s either.

Post a Nero burn log…does backup play fine from HDD? does original disk play in burner?
What media??? post a log…use IMGBurn ,see if that works for your backup…slow down write speed…BTW WC!

if i put in original dvds in the drive it will recognize and play them, if i put the blank ones it will just say there blank on nero
i am currently using Kodak DVD-R 4.7gb write speed is max 2x and lowest is 1x so its not going over fast, ive tried both write speeds.
i will try IMGBurn as well as do a nero log.

2x is too slow, up burn speed to 6x, 8x or 12x…but I would definitely use better media Verbatims is what I and others prefer/recommend…

i think the burners max speed is 2x

That’s right and i gave you help till you said “man”. I’m not your man and i’m not your father…good luck.

There are 20X burners out and have been out for awhile.

just looked on nero infotool and i believe the burner is capable of doing speeds of 16 and 8x as wheni look at write speed there is 16x and 8x so tomorow i will purchase one of every dvd-r in staples andsee if any work if not i will be returning the drive for a replacement.
