Programs Claim to burn at 4x. Burn at 2x

Hello.

I have a NEC 2500A DVD burner and a few Ritek G04 DVD-R discs. The problem is that whenever I try to burn something on them it gets burned at 2x instead of at 4x. Same thing when I do a simulation mode.
I tried two different programs so far: Alcohol 120% and Nero. Both have the same result.
I currently have the official NEC 1.07 firware set up.
Any ideas what to do?

You’ve probably not got DMA enabled properly.

Go into Device Manager, open up the IDE controller branch and uninstall the IDE controller. Then reboot your pc.

I have:
Intel [numbers] Untra ATA Storage Controllers
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel

Which one(s) should be removed? Also, wouldn’t that mess up my HD interface?

Lastly, I could burn at 4x about a week ago. Not sure what happened, but I can’t anymore.

Edit: I checked, and it seems like I have DMA enabled. So that’s probably not the problem.

Hello,
I’ ve got the same problem… i’ ve flashed my 3500 with the new MadDog 2.F9 but it seems it can only write at 2.4x speed with Bulpaq dvd+r 4x… i’ve also tested these supports on a Lg 4120b and there they seem to work perfectly… i’ve checked the Dma in bios and device manager… and everything is ok… can you give me some advice?
In your opinion what is the most suitable firmware for this type of support?
Thx you all!!!

P.S.
Excuse me for my poor english, i promise i will improve…

hey daneel try 2C8SE , it works on the bulkpaq 4x r+ you can get it here http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/index.html

The problem here is that it normally always says you have DMA enabled - even though it’s not!

The hint as to which one you should delete is actually in my previous post.

‘uninstall the IDE controller’

Only one of the items you listed has the word ‘controller’ in it

No it wont mess up your hdd. Once removed, you’ll be prompted to reboot. When windows loads back up again it will reinitialise the device, reinstall the drivers and default to the proper DMA modes.

But the others had the word “IDE” in them. So that confused me a bit.
I’ll get right to it and edit the results. Thanks.

The Bulkpaq 4+ are terribly bad discs, I’m glad I only bought one 25-pack, have had 5 coasters so far, not trusting them with anything valuable, no-name media, unknown manufacturer. I can only burn them at 2.4x with 2C8SE, and I wouldn’t dream about going higher with these ones. Mine say Generation 4, 4x speed, DVD+R

 … i know what you’re feeling Mannen    … this is my same problem…
…with the 2C8 Ritek 4x and Bulkpaq +r 4x, it only writes at 2.4x…anyone knows if there is another firmware specific for Bulkpaq +r 4x out there???
Moreover, it can’t read some of these dvds…!!!
One that i made last evening, is considered blank by the nec3500 but is read by my dvd reader (a samsung)

Besides i don’t know if i have problems also with my Dma… this is a what Via IdeTool says:

I mean is it right if i choose Ultra Dma Mode 2…? and why only Ata 33…? is there anything wrong…?
Do you think i’ d better do what LightningUk said few posts ago…?

P.S.
To flash the 2C8 Ritek i had to use the dos flasher… necflash wingui doesn’ t seem to work anymore… strange or not??

As always, Thank you all!! :iagree:

@LIGHTNING_UK! Good to see you over here.
DVDDecrypter rox0rs!

@mannen, those 001 discs are crap! The firmware only supports them at 2.4X write speed, probably using a generic write strategy.

@R.Daneel, yes that is the correct mode. The 3500 is an ATA33 device. Your other drive can’t read the discs because they are very crappy. Use other media please!
