The PX-712A does not offer 40x, of course. The selected speed was 48x, but the actual recording speed reported by PTP was 40x.
This is the highest I could go with this media. The Plextor Premium would not let me burn it faster than 24x and you can see why. At lower speeds the results are much better though.

The PX-712A outdid the Premium here. The Premium would lower the speed to 24x if 32x was selected. With 40x or 52x it would do 32x but then there would be some C2s reported. The PX-712A does it without C2s.

The BLER is excellent, but the beta and jitter paint a skewed picture.

I just ordered some discs described as “ProDisc 90+ Min 800+ MB CD-R”

I looked through this thread, and dont see anyone overburning past about 82 minutes.

I’m not sure how one would identify the 90 minute disc by looking at the scans anyway – if I understand the process correctly, they identify themselves as 80 min discs, and the hardware/software has to know to overburn them.

Has anyone tried these 90min Prodiscs? If so, any advice?

I will post some scans as soon as I get them.

-caa 100

ps: I will try them in my liteon sohw-832s and my Samsung SW-252S

Comment: Did not have high expectations for CD-R 90 media, so this didn’t surprise me for the most part.

For those who are interested: Nero Overburn Test indicates disc is writable to about 95:52.

Plextor Premium (fw?), 703 MB

I’d had an excellent batch of Prodisc CD-Rs recently, so ordered more in the hope they’d be as good. This is a disk from the new batch. The jitter and focus error are nothing special, but still, pretty decent for moderately priced media.

Maximum C1: 15

Just for laughs, I put the same disk into my “I’ve never met a disk that wasn’t a coaster” Pioneer 111D, to see what it would say. It easily got the highest quality score of any disk I’d ever scanned in it: 32, versus the previous high score of 13 (Taiyo Yuden). So, for what it’s worth, the Pioneer scan:
