Problems with updating firmware

I have Optiarc AD7200A and I run Linux. The necflash utility, which I downloaded from binflash.cdfreaks.com, tells me, that there are no supported devices. What I have to do ?

$ ./necflash -scan -v
Binflash - NEC version - © by Liggy and Herrie
Visit http://binflash.cdfreaks.com

List of supported devices:
Trying to query device /dev/hdc
device Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200A 1.01 unsupported
Trying to query device /dev/hdd
device ASUS DVD-E616P2 1.03 unsupported
No supported devices found

Try running the program with root user. Linux kernels since (I think) 2.6.9 do not allow some commands when running with an unprivileged user

Thanks a lot! Now it works

./necflash -scan

List of supported devices:

Device : /dev/hdc
Vendor : Optiarc
Model : DVD RW AD-7200A
Firmware : 1.01

On the http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/Optiarc-AD-7200A/ I found two firmwares for my drive:

Liggy’s AD-7200A Bitsetting Firmware 1.05
Original Optiarc AD7200A firmware 1.05

What’s the difference between them ? What has been added\modified to non-original firmware?

The Bitsetting one supports booktype DVD-ROM for DVD+R/RW in addition to the normal DVD+R DL set to DVD-ROM. This allows better compatibility with older DVD players.

thanks
