Problems with TDK DVD -R Blank discs?

I only use TDK DVDS to burn with on bot PC & DVD Recorder - and have for a few years now.
I Bought 2 TDK Spindles of 50 (like I always do) in 2 days from 2 different places.
They burn no probs on my 2 panasonic dvd recorders - but all of a sudden they do not burn on my PC at all no matter if I pick them form the top,middle or bottom they fail pretty every time from both spindles!!!
What im saying is it ,downloads or encodes the actual contents of the disc no probs,they it ejects the original disc no probs,I put the blank disc in and it fails after pretty much as soon as it attemps to write saying "burn process failed at 4x) & “Could not perform fixation” everytime,every disc no what spindle of the 2 I bought - im thinking I may have got a faulty spindle (but from 2 different places???)

But here is the twist.

I went out today & bought a 50 spindle of Verbatim…yep you guessed it - worked straight away…and again and again - so I thought I would grab the 2 TDK spindles and burn a disc from each…and yep you guessed it…they both still didn’t work!!!
So I ran another Verbatim thinking my PC or actual burner is knackered - but the Verbatim worked a treat again…

Can anybody explain this.

RITEK F1 are OK discs with the right burner…but I see you have a Pioneer 107D.

Since the 107 is an 8x drive, I’d imagine the mediacode isn’t supported in the firmware - and thus it’s trying to use a “default” write strategy.

Stick with the Verbies, would be my advice. Or try and find some 8x discs. :slight_smile:

The Pioneer 107 is too old to have the strategy for Ritek1. (I know I had one 103, one 104 and later 2 108s).
Buy a new burner or buy x8 DVDs.

Funny because,all of a sudden today,i have had about 20 straight succesful burns now with the same TDK’s!!!
Then it did it again:sad:
So i restarted my PC then i got a succesful burn again!
Its crazy! why would that be?

So with Pioneer 107D what would be he ideal blank media? Considering its age?

Will just stick to Verbies - until i update my burner im thinking like advised or look for some 8x’s.

Probably because whether or not the “default” write strategy results in a successful burn is a bit hit-or-miss (that’s if both the successful and unsuccessful burns came from the same spindle). I experienced the same thing (burning at 4x) with ProdiscF02 - 16x DVD-R - on an 8x LiteOn LDW-851S, which IIRC only supported -R at 4x anyway :slight_smile:

Another possible explanation would be significant variation in quality from disc to disc, and that the worst ones failed.

Anyway, even though I’m not of the “keep up with the newest stuff” kind, I think it’s a good idea to replace this 107D. :wink: - Another Pioneer would be fine. :slight_smile:
