Hey guys, I have been having some issues with my writer for a while now, and after trolling the forums I am still without a solution. As mentioned, I have a Samsung SH-W162c writer. As of the last few days I cannot write or read anything with the drive. When I place a disc into the drive it will spin, the green light comes on, but the desktop will freeze until I eject the disc, and then all goes back to normal. I though it might be some sort of software conflict, as I had Nero, Alcohol, CloneDVD2 and Daemon, as well as some custom DVD making software, so I made sure I uninstalled any program that had remotely anything to do with burning/reading/emulating drives. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drive, updated the firmware, rolled the firmware back, went through the registry to remove any trace of Nero or Alcohol, and still the same problem. I would really like to salvage this without having to do a fresh windows install. The drive itself is on a secondary IDE channel as the master drive (I have two hard drives on the first), and I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. My system specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
1 gB of ram
Any help or advice in the matter would be much appreciated.
