Problems with burning - Lite-On SOHW-1673S

I upgraded to the last firmware (JSOD), tried 3 types of media, defragged my hard drive, went from nVidia back to the Windows IDE drivers, and I’m still getting “Unspecified Recorder Error.” I’m using Nero 6, Windows XP Pro SP2, AMD 3000+, 1 gig of RAM. The DVDs that I’m predominately using are RiData 16x DVD-Rs (4.7gb). I generally burn at 16x and there seems to be no real difference in the failure rate between 16x and 8x. I have also tried Staples and Imation DVDs. What generally happens is that my burner will work for a bit and then stop. Once, I burned probably 10 .ISOs (all I’ve been burning are .ISOs created with DVD Shrink 3.2) in a row without a failure, but I’ve also tried half a dozen times without success (and I don’t think the images are bad, because they’ve not worked and then worked later). What it’ll do is burn until the end, seeming like everything is ok, and then at the end it says “Unspecified Recorder Error,” then “Could not perform end of Disc-at-once,” then “Invalid Write State,” then “Could not perform end of Disc-at-once,” again, and finally “Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s).”

Any suggestions? I have not yet tried swapping it to a different computer. I lost the box to it so I don’t think I can RMA it. :frowning:

Here’s my Nero log:

Nero 7… update it.
Also search for an firmware update for your burner and try with other, supported media.

PS: Please ask an mod/admin to edit out the Nero serial.

I tried Nero 7 Ultra Edition, the updated one, with the same results. LiteOn recommended that I go back to Nero 6 (since it was what was supplied with my drive).

do you have burning problems if you try to burn with a program other than nero? I recommend giving clonedvd2 a try from www.slysoft.com. there’s a 21 day free trial. just use the “write existing data” function to write one of the ISOs that you’ve already created and let us know how that goes.

at least this can help narrow down whether its a hardware or a software issue.

By the way, next time please post this in LiteON forum

nothing wrong with this in the newbie forum…especially since it’s very likely to be a software and not a hardware problem at all.

Your post indicates you are using DVD -R discs. The LiteOn 1673 will only read and write to DVD +R. I know because I have a 1673. I later purchased a 1693 which will burn and read +R or -R. I learned the hard way.

Ken

In which case there was something wrong with yours.

Since the early days of DVD writers Liteons have always been +R & -R for burning.

spmetiomes i think we’re more interested in helping than the original poster is in finding a solution. when i ask questions/make suggestions, i get curious if they will work! if the OP is still around, let us know what happened!

I tried CloneDVD2 and it works!

Thank you guys so much!
