Problems with burned DVDs

I’m new here, so forgive my ignorance  . I have a Maddog NEC2500a flashed with Herrie 1.07 v2 beta5 firmware. The media I am using is Ridata RITEKG04. Complete media code shown below. I am burning the discs at 4x and am ending up with data dvd’s which have crc errors and dvd’s copied using dvdshrink which freeze up in my dvd player and result in reading errors when trying to rip the .vobs. I am using Nero 6.6 to burn them. Is it just crappy media, the firmware, or what? I thought the RiteckG04’s were supposed to work well with the drive/Herrie’s firmware. I am getting fed up not being able to burn good dvd’s. Also, what is a good program to scan a burned dvd for errors (k-probe is not compatible with any of the optical drives I have)? Thanks.

hi mwalt2
Welcome to the forum.

Ritek G04 and G05 are very varibal in quality. The only way to find out if this is a drive or media issue is to try another media.

K-Probe is for Liteon compatible drives only.

Thanks for the reply. I only have the Ridata DVD-R discs right now. Are DVD+R discs supposed to have better burning quality than DVD-R’s? I know that K-probe is only for Lite-On drives (found out the hard way:)), and I only have a lite-on cd-rw drive. Are there any other programs which perform similar functions as K-probe for other brands of DVD drives? Also, any recommendations on media for the NEC-2500a?

Here’s a Nero CD-DVD Speed test. Just great

Did you check to see if you have UDMA 2 in your IDE settings?

Yea, UDMA 2 is enabled.
