Problems with a Philips DVD Drive

Hi guys n girls

I’ve been looking for about 4 hours for a solution to this problem . . to no avail, so I’m hoping one of you guys can help!

I’ve got . . . .

Philips DVD+R9 drive
DVD8701

I have formatted my computer last night to revert back to XP from Vista, and my pc now isnt reading a burnt dvd disc . . . namely a disc that was burnt with vital data on it from before the format . . .

I put the dvd in the drive, and it comes up with this . . .

Without the disc in the drive, My Computer appears as below . . .

As you can see, it is displaying it with DVD icon, and the text says its a DVD drive

With the disc in the drive, My Computer appears as below . . .

It now has text saying its a CD Drive, but has a DVD icon still . . . ?

Any ideas of how I can resolve this?

Thanks

Lee

any help with this at all please guys?

How did you “revert” to XP from Vista? It’s obvious that something got screwed up. Downgrading is not an automatically smooth or perfect process. Make sure that DMA is enabled for your DVD drive and/or consider uninstalling the device, restarting, and letting Windows detect it fresh.
