Hi All

Hi and Welcome!

this is your problem:

CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD±RW GWA4164B atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : _NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off</atapi>[/quote]Follow the advice given here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f61/troubleshooting-enabling-checking-dma-windows-vista-xp-2000-me-9x-101616/ and see if that solves the problem.

Hi

Tanks for your reply. I checked the primary ide drivers and the second one seems to be stuck on PIOmode. I have toggled it to pio only and back to DMA but with no luck.
Any ideas what thebest move next is? Microsoft site advises that i might have a critical failure iminent with a piece of hardware and that is why it is switchedoff. Is there any way of telling what piece of hardware this is.?

thanks
Rob

Hey robjen

Download and run the “resetdma.vbs” script in this post - if it finds a channel to reset, you may need to reboot afterwards.

I’ve run it a couple of times on my mum’s PC when the usual deleting IDE channels thing has failed to help.

If Windows encounters x amount of read errors on a drive (could be from a bad disc, or even maybe a bad IDE cable), it’ll drop into PIO Mode, which is a pain in the neck 'cos usually you don’t notice it’s done it until you start getting failures burning etc.
