Problems Burning with HP DVD Writer 400i/c

vbimport

#1

I recently have had problems burning DVDs with my HP DVD Writer 400i/c.

It appears that I can burn anything fine on the DVD+RW that came with the drive, and I can burn CD-Rs with no issues. It’s when I try to burn DVD+Rs that I get a “Drive Write Error” and then it stops.

I have two brands of media, one is unbranded and the other is Memorex. Neither brand successfully writes and completes burning. The HP DVD+RW seems to work fine.

I am on an Athlon XP 2800 with 1GB of RAM using Windows XP Pro SP1.

My HP Representative said that the media may be at fault, but the media has worked in the past. This is somewhat boggling!

Thanks for your time - if you have any questions or need any logs or other information to further assist me, please let me know!

Hi there Wizard and welcome to the forum.

I dunno why the media suddenly doesn’t work anymore , but i’ve heard many rumours about deteriorating lenses inside the device.

Did you try a newer firmware ?

#3

I’m using FH04, didn’t work before or after. The guy on the phone said that it may be possible that certain discs worked and others didn’t. I think I may have a bum drive. After running the media detector, it would appear that both brands of my media are fundamentally identical. They recommended Sony brand or HP Brand. Of course I’m not going to get HP Brand, but perhaps I need to try other media? This just seems silly to me, however.

That’s the log from an unsuccessful burn with a DVD+R disc. Now I’m successfully burning with a DVD+RW disc and I will post the results. This only leaves me room to believe that it’s the media which is at fault.

Wizard37, my brother-in-law had problems with burning the Imation (4X RICOHJPNR01) that I gave him, and some Verbatim he bought with the DVD400c in his HP then, using the original firmware BH04. It was always at a particular section of the movie that he backed up. Since then, he had taken the HP back and gotten a newer computer completely, which included a dual-format drive. Now, he’s burning without any problems.

#8

Well, I don’t have the luxury of being able to afford another writer, so I’m going to test and see if the problem is with the media. I have to convince Hewlett Packard that they need to send me a new one.

#10

i have been having the same problem but i found that if i burn at a slower speed it works correctly. it just takes longer.
