Another post sorry… I have a SONY DVD RW AW-G170A installed and working (sort of)
It will play audio cd’s and dvd’s (red dwarf tried) plays cd and dvd rom’s as well but the burning is not working!

Samsung CD RW Master and Sony DVD RW slave.

The Secondary IDE is right… device 0 (samsung cd rw) ultra DMA mode 5
and device 1 (sony dvd rw) is ultra DMA mode 4

But…

The Primary IDE is Ultra DMA mode 5 and the device 1 is blank.
Is this why it wont work?

Software used is Ashampoo Burning Studio 2007.

This is what the details say when I try to burn a data dvd

11:44:45: Preparation started
11:44:45: Starting track analysis
11:44:45: Track analysis completed successfully
11:44:45: Preparation completed successfully
11:44:45: Recording at 6x in track at once mode. The recorded DVD will not be finalized.
11:44:45: Pre-buffering data…
11:44:51: Prebuffering completed.
11:45:17: Recording DVD
11:45:17: Writing track 1 Length: 4,406 MB
11:45:20: Could not write to device
11:49:20: Average write-speed: 0 KB/s or 0x.
11:49:20: DVD recording completed
11:49:20: Recording DVD failed

So if anyone has any ideas great as I would like to get this sorted

just to add… the dvd is full! only 75 mb left free… but not reg on pc in my computer…

Why?

We need a little more info to help you.
What type of DVD are you trying to write?
What make and MID are the disc’s you are using?
Have you run DVD/cd speed by Nero and looked at the burst rate? The burst rate should be over 22mbs for a fast burn.
If you are having difficulties try burning a test disc in cd speed.
If as you say the writer is showing dma mode these parameters should be ok.

data dvd…

What make and MID are the disc’s you are using?

Tesco DVD+R 8x

Have you run DVD/cd speed by Nero and looked at the burst rate? The burst rate should be over 22mbs for a fast burn.

How? not got Nero

If you are having difficulties try burning a test disc in cd speed.

Tried to burn audio cd but that didn’t work either.

If as you say the writer is showing dma mode these parameters should be ok.

Only secondary is showing dma mode Primary is not.

#5

The primary channel will be for your hard drive unless they are SATA drives.
Google for CD/DVD speed and download it, it’s free.

#6

Uninstall both primary and secondry drives reboot and let the windows reinstall the drive and check to see if both are in DMA positions.

#7

Burn DVD in TAOmode???

Youmust use either SAO or DAO.

#8

To weedougie - burst rate 43mb/s MID - AML 002 000 (00h)
To TCAS - do you mean the drivers?
To chef - TAOmode? sao and dao? sorry ot a clue what you mean. can you explain?

#9

I’ve scanned the dvd with nero DVD speed 4.7.5.0 and it says that the info I burned is on there… but i can’t read it with the PC! what’s that all about?
all the files i wanted are repasented here, but there is no content.

#10

Choose either SAO or DAO mode as burning mode or enable at least “finalizing DVD”.

#11

would it be easier to get nero? as ashampoo’s options for recording are only eject cd/dvd after and automatically close tray before verifiing! there is nothing about SAO or DAO

#12

Then try with Nero.

#13

Ashampoo version 6 should work just fine with your drives. I use it with a Sony CDRW/DVD reader (Slave) and Sony DVD-RW (Master) in the Secondary Channel. Make sure the jumpers are set properly-do not use Cable Select. In the drive properties Enable DMA for both of your drives after you reinstall them using Device Manager.
BTW: Burning Studio 7 will be released on 4/23.

#14

Ok I downloaded a trial of nero 7. tried that and that failed… do you want the error report for that? its big ha ha… well here it is…

1st, disable Multisession mode!
2nd, burn SLOWER!!
3rd, replace the ide cable and make sure the drive really works - you can test it in another computer.

Ok so I’m going to try a slower speed but now I have sony as master ans samsung as slave… oh i hope this works!

I don’t believe that any CD burner would be operating in Ultra DMA mode 5 as stated in your first post. Mode 2 would be the best you’d get.

As for the Tesco DVD disks , well I wouldn’t touch own brand disks ever. Much better to use Verbatim for both CD & DVD.
