Problem writing 8x!

I use Traxdata dvd+r 8x but i can only write in 4x. I use the latest version of nero. I have the 1.06 firmware. Do i need a new firmware to fix this?

Media code is:
00000000 01 02 00 00 A1 0F 02 00 00 03 00 00 00 26 05 3F …&.?
00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 52 49 54 45 4B 00 00 00 52 …RITEK…R
00000020 30 33 02 38 23 54 37 09 00 3C 65 00 A0 5F 14 14 03.8#T7…<e…_…
00000030 0A 0A 0A 0A 01 19 1B 0B 0B 0E 0F 01 00 00 00 00 …

That looks like Ritek R03 media.

Your only chance to burn it at 8x is Herrie’s hacked firmware, which you can find in the following thread.

However, the writing quality is extremly poor at all speeds, so I recommend you stick with stock 1.06 firmware and burn at 4x. Otherwise, your burns will be of poor quality (probably still readable however).

Herrie’s opinion is that R03 is not of sufficient quality to burn well at 8x. I tend to disagree, but there isn’t a good enough write strategy out there for them yet unfortunately.

With current available strategies, R03 is deffinitely “marginal” at 8x on any burner. With the NEC and 1.06 it can be burned reasonably well at 4x. There’s plenty of available media that works much better at 8x, so my spindle of R03 will sit on the shelf for now.

Now with the firmware you suggested I managed to write in 6x at least. But I will continue to write 4x. Don’t want to risk anything.
