I have run into a problem on DVDs created from my Pioneer DVR listed in my signature. This is a standalone Digital Video Recorder connected to my cable for recording TV shows, etc.
The DVDs are not encrypted of course but DVDFab is unable to read them. It just attempts and shows there is 0 mb and not titles are shown. Also no errors.
I have determined that DVDFab does not like the IFO files created by this DVR. Pioneer claims they follow the standard and it does work in DVD players but I have seen issues with other video tools not liking the title either. The only applications that can read all the information consistantly are the NERO apps.
Any way, to solve the problem so DVDFab can read the IFO properly, I just copy the VIDEO_TS to my HD and run PGCEDIT that is freely available. Once I open the VIDEO_TS folder with PGCEDIT it detects no first run command and inserts a dummy entry. Without making any other changes I just save and exit from PGCEDIT and now DVDFab can read the VIDEO_TS folder fine.
So why am I using a ripper on a DVD that does not need to be ripped? I really like the DVD to Mobile features in DVDFab.
If anyone from DVDFab team would like copies of the before and after IFO files let me know. Perhaps there is a clue here why other DVDs cannot be read properly some times.
Hopefully this helps someone else.
From what I just read from a few reveiws it is most problematic
was the audio recorded in DTS
