[qanda]This thread is about the Optiarc BC-5500S. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Please help. I am not sure what happened with my Optiarc BD ROM drive.
I bought Acer laptop when I was on vacation in Russia. Lapop includes Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S drive. I also bought a Blue Ray DVD with some movie when I was there.
Here is the thing. When I played the movie in Russia, there was no problem. When I came back to USA, I could also play that Bue Ray disc that I purchased in Russia.
Now we come to the wiered part. When I tried to play it today, I get an error messsage saying that this disk was coded to play only in Region B or C. I was freaked out since it did not happen before.
Then I realized something. Sometime after I came back to USA, I had to reinstall/recover my laptop from the recovery DVDs provided by the manufacturer. I am guessing that is what caused my region on BD ROM drive to change from not set or B/C to region A. However, I do not understand. I thougt that this region setting was in the Firmware not on the software level, that is why I do not understand how reinstalling windows caused my region code to change. DOes windows reinstall change BD Rom's firmware???? Relaly frustrating.
So now i have an option of changing it manually to region C just to see that one movie I bought in Russia and then changing it back to A. I have 4 tries left. Not a very appealing option. What else can I do?
I have 1.B2 Firmware version on my drive now. Optiarc website has version 1.04. Will updating fimware help reset the setting to Region C or at least help to bring the reset counter back to 5 tries? What else can I do? Any crack on the internet for Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S?
Let me know what you think and whether really windows reinstall caused this whole problem and why.
I appreciate all your help
