Read the review that’s been posted. http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=271&page=Intro

The NEC product range is generally pretty good & I think the 3540 is no exception.

To apper76, you should investigate using the many alternatives discussed at this site, and also on others such as www.afterdawn.com there are many guides listed to help you. I switched from dvdxcopy along time ago, and it was pretty simple to get going. I use DVD Shrink for about 90% of my backups, and dvd decrypter for the rest. Both simple and straight forward programs, and if you do have a problem with 1 of them, you will get more help. Not many people still using dvdxcopy anymore. Good Luck.

I’d venture to bet it’s your media. HP is most likely CMC Mag = Junk. Get DVDIdentifier and post the mid code of the media. Best bet, pick yourself up some TY media. And also take pollushon’s advice.

Yo-

As the others have said-

Get Good Media and Good Burning Program-

Lose the DVD-X-Copy-

Thanks for all your help guys… I think I am gonna go ahead and try some new media. I fiddled around with programs and such and have found a way to burn that almost always works. I use DVDShrink then Nero, but I have to burn at the lowest speed (2.4x) [the burner is 16x and media 8x]… does this indicate anything about the media, burner, software, etc.? Even if I go up to 4x it stalls. Again, thanks for your helpful answers.

Yes, it definately sounds like it could be a media problem. You will get the best answer if you post the Media ID. Programs like Dvd Info Pro, will tell you exactly which media you purchased, not what it says on the outside of the package. I have recently purchased the NEC 3540 and have had no problems. The good quality media I purchase will burn at or above rated speed. I have a feeling if Nero won’t let you burn any faster than 2.4x then you have some bad media. Good luck, and hope this helps. You can also save to an image (ISO) out of Shrink, and then burn it with DeCrypter. It will tell you your exact burn speed while its burning.
