Problem with new benq dvd burner DW1670

I have just purchased a new desktop pc with benq dvd burner DW1670.
I can use the drive to install windows xp but when i started using windows,
it can’t read any cd or dvd or more specifically, an error message ‘…not a valid win32 application’ poped up whenever i inserted an autorun cd or clicked on an executale file in the cd/dvd. However, i can read those cd/dvd with no problem when i entered safe mode. Anyone has any idea what is the problem? thanx.

another error mesage displayed was ‘… only part of a read process memory or write process memory request was completed’ thanx for replying

Some things you can check on the drive settings.

  1. Use an 80-conductor IDE cable, since the drive supports UDMA4.
  2. If it’s on the same channel as the hard drive, relocate it to the other channel and set as Master.
  3. Uninstall any chipset IDE drivers (VIA, nVIDIA, SiS, etc.) and use Microsoft’s IDE driver.

Moved to the BenQ/Philips forum.

Sounds like bad memroy to me. You should download Memtest86 and run it and make sure you have no errors in your memory.

Thanx a lot, KTL.
My problem solved after changing to a 80-conductor IDE cable!
