ok guys i got my new plextor PX-716

here is some pics :

http://members.lycos.co.uk/truesq/DCP_1220.JPG

http://members.lycos.co.uk/truesq/DCP_1227.JPG

when i put it in Master i get Ultra DMA 4. and when i put it in Slave it’s also the same . when there is no jumper it will be Multiword DMA 2.

any way i am using the drive with ultra DMA 4.

the first time i used the drive i said ok lets try the 16X .
so i brought fujifilm DVD-R 8X TY

so i burn it in 16X and no problem happend with writing so i tried to read it with my PX and i couldnt !!!

i put it in my LiteON 166S and it works so i scaned the disc with Kprobe and i got bad bad bad scan :

http://members.lycos.co.uk/truesq/kprobe.PNG

any way that doesn’t bother me now.

the writer can read any disc very good.

i tried to burn some Mitsubishi DVD-R they are rated 4X and i can write on them only @ 4X no lower speed …

i used nero latest version :

and i got the No seek complete error :

so now what is going on !!! ??

do i need to RMA the drive ??

Not all Fujifilm 8x can record at high quality at 16x. Do a media check on the blank media first. Most can do 12x, a few only 8x for high quality. I just use 8x to get top quality nearly all the time. Verbatim 16x is better for 16x.

#3

ok thats nice but at the momeny i don’t care about burning at higher speed now, i care about my problem with Mitsubishi DVD+R why i am getting No Seek complete !!

i made some Mitsubishi CD-R test and i got these result :

http://members.lycos.co.uk/truesq/cd-r.png

Avg/Sec Max/Sec Total
C1 2.3 22.0 10147.0
C2 0.0 0.0 0.0
CU 0.0 0.0 0.0

and thats amazing quality …

so guys can i say my drive is OK and no need for RMA or what ! ?

#4

and where is the media check on the blank media ?? is it in plextools ? what is the name of the test ?

#5

please give your motherboard model !!!

#6

GigaByte GA-7VAXP latest firmware …

i am running all my HD from the RAID …

and i am running at the moment 3 optical drive … so the plextor DVD is alone in the cable …

#7

The Media Quality Chect test is in Plextools, under the Drive Settings, Advanced tab. Select the writing speed and then run the test - try the lowest speed setting first.

#8

sorry man where i couldn’t find it !! where Advanced tab !

http://members.lycos.co.uk/truesq/test.png

sorry am noob in plextor world …

#9

Select “Drive Settings” on the left side under the Plextor Drive. Then some tabs across the top should appear, including “Advanced” - under that screen look down for a button labeled “Media Quality Check” and you can select various burn speeds to test with. Put in a blank DVD+R or -R disc first.

#10

ok thanks i got it …

i will test it and tell u …

Sorry to say that “Media Quality Check” in Plextools does not give a complete interpretation of media quality to be burn in your drive. Remember, each media, even from the same spindle, are different. And burn quality also differ from drive to drive.

The more comprehensive check is Q-Check FE/TE test.
The most throughly quality check is by doing a burn (Write Transfer Rate Test) and then test the burned media with Q-Check PI/PO test Sum8 test, Sum1 test, Q-Check Beta/Jitter Test and Read Transfer Rate Test.

First, I would suggest to post all media in question. Use DVD Identifier, http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ and post the drive capabilites and media block. The “drive capabilites” will show what speed the media can be burn in your 716a, and the MID. The “media block” will also tell us the MID in detail, and some people can tell if the media is fake or not.

Example for Verbatim 16x DVD+R, MID: MCC-004
