Problem with LiteOn SOHW-1633S (Slow Burn)

I have been using the LiteOn SOHW-1633S with DVD shrink. At first, everything was great, but now its taking a lot longer to scan and burn. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is your dma enable?

as toant103 said, your dma is not enabled, or has been disabled by mistake.

this happens a lot here, especialy when i update firmware without rebooting (just hibernate).

My DMA is enabled. Also, I have not installed the firmware suggested. Forgive my ignorance; are there any dangers associated with installation?
