Problem with Liteon 1633s cd-r writing speed

vbimport

#1

I have Nero 6.6.0.3 and when I’m writing cd-r 52x media Nero selects 48x. But actual speed showed by Nero stops at 32x and won’t increase anymore. I have tried different media. Same problem.
With Liteon 52327s no problems.
Checked DMA, everything is on.

IDE1 Samsung HDD master
IDE2 Liteon 1633s master, Liteon 52327s slave.

Please help my solve this problem !

Welcome

The 1633S does not have CD media tables, so they have to use a more generic method to decide what speed to burn CD media at, compared to the 52327S. I suspect that this speed is being decided by smartburn, during the burn. If you can read a CD at 48x (use Nero CD-DVD Speed to test) then the problem is not with your system. You will probably have to use some very good media, to get the drive to burn at 48x.

Thanks C0deKing

Nero CD-DVD test shows that CD can be readed at 48x and even burned at this speed. Maybe I should turn off SMART-BURN feature in Nero. When I try to simulate writing in Nero everything seems OK. Any suggestions ? Could this help me write Cd’s at 48x ?

If it simulates at 48x, then it is definitely smart-burn that is slowing the burn down.

You could try turning off smart-burn but the resulting quality may not be good, unless smart-burn is being over cautious. I just hope the Nero smart-burn option works.

After palying around a bit with different media - this is my results:

Disc manufacturer (media code/ATIP info) and speed disc is certified for - Speed Lite-On wrote at.
Prodisc 48x - 16x :frowning:
Ritek 48x - 48x
Ritek 52x - 40x
Sony 52x - 32x
Princo 48x - 32x
Daxon 52x - 32x
Moser Baer 52x - 48x
Hitachi/maxell 52x - 40x
Taiyo Yuden 52x - 32x
Taiyo Yuden 48x - 32x
CMC Magnetics 52x - 40x
Mitsubishi 48x - 40x
Mitsubishi 52x - 40x

As you can see the latesl Lite-On DVD-Writers is VERY picky on media they will write at 48x.

I would rather call them 40x writers as only two particular discs were recorded at 48x.

Anyway here is the supported media list - and you will see that it doesn’t make sense at all.

I disabled SMART-BURN but still no luck. I’ve tried Verbatim CD-R 48x 700mb and Digidata CD-R 52x 700mb. Writing speed in Nero still goes for about 31.8x. I’ve attached NeroInfo tool file. What could be wrong with this drive ? :a

Also tried BS41 firmware. Same problem. I had 40 wire IDE cable but now I use 80 wire cable. Everything seems working except this.

There is nothing wrong - it’s just how this drive works.

If you could find moser baer manufactured CD-R discs I guess they will work at 48x. Most other works at 32x/40x. Yes even good ones like Taiyo yuden and mitsubishi.

But still - there is less than a minute in difference anyway…

Thanks OC-Freak

I’ve tryed some old CD-R media 1x-12x and my 52327s shows that it can be recorded at 16x but 1633s shows 48x. I think that 1633s would always show 48x for CD-R media, but at writing process will decrease speed. And for my Memorex CD-RW 8x-12x it shows 10x. Interesting thing is that in Nero simulation mode and CD-DVD test, CD-R write speed always goes up to 48x. 1633s writing speed is really strange because on my 52327s I wrote 48x media at speed 52x with no problems. By the way which firmware is the best for my 1633s ?
