Problem with LG GSA-4167B

[qanda]This thread is about the LG GSA-4167B. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi

Im new here, and im having some strange issues with my LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B, the thing is that i never had problems at all with it, but since i’ve installed the xp sp3, its always giving errors when i start the burning. I use Nero 9 and Princo DVD-r, never had problems with them whatsoever. Ive tryed other programs like ashampoo but the problem persists :S

Pls help me (i have an error Log, if needed)

Thanks

Welcome to the forum

I have the same drive, and mine doesn’t do well with sub-standard media. I’m surprised the Princo discs burned at all on your drive

Nevertheless, if you could post the error log so we can see what’s happening during the burn, that would be great.

Thanks.

Yeh i bought 2 cakes of 100 dvd-r and never had a single problem xD

SO heres the error log:

I see you have your drives hooked up to a Marvell controller. Might be worth seeing if you can uninstall the Marvell drivers and revert to the default M$ ones.

Also. The 4167B firmware is up to DL13 now, but see what you can do with the controller drivers first.

The firmware does not support the PRINCORGM1 media code.
The firmware does not support the PRINCORGM1 media code.
Oooops. Just had a look at DL13 with MCSE, that doesn’t seem to support it either.

So, f0xx - try better media, e.g. Verbatim or Sony.

oh cmon thats not the answer i want :frowning: …like i said it works fine with PRINCO…maybe its because of MARVEL, ill try to uninstall them…

one thing, how do i uninstall MARVEL drivers? XD

Ok ive managed to uninstall MARVEL drivers but they reinstalled automatically… :frowning:

Are you guys being paid by SOny oy verbatim? I know those are good brands, but im telling you it works with princo, maybe its some problem with the DVD burner… if i buy a new one will it work?

Sorry, missed your replies.

Nope, we’re not paid by anyone - we go by experience with the discs in question and nothing more.

If you’re insistent on using Princo (which, however way you slice it, is sub-standard media at the best of times), then a drive like Pioneer or NEC may suit you, as they’re pretty tolerant of crappy media. LG is the opposite in my experience - they perform best when fed good stuff. It also helps if the firmware supports the disc’s media code to start with :stuck_out_tongue:

However. Without knowing before hand if that media code is supported in a drive’s firmware, there are still no guarantees that a Pioneer or NEC will burn this stuff well. I’d just say those drives are your best chance (others may add drives to these).

HMm i cant install other drivers… i was thinking about buying another LG, is this one worth it LG DVDRW 22X SATA Preto Bulk- GH22NS30? Can it burn DL ? Thanks again

It can burn DL.

One question, why you can’t install another drive?
One question, why you can’t install another drive?
Good question

lI uninstall the Marvell driver, i do a restart and it reinstalls the Marvell drivers automatically, besides if theres a new driver for this drive, i dont know where to get it…

Well, when we said about new drive we didn’t mean new drivers for the marvel controller, but a new dvd-rw, that probably would have a better support for those princo’s.

Btw, LG drives are very picky with media, so as Arachne suggested you may wan to have a look at other brands, like pioneer, liteon or optiarc.

Oh lol i thought you typed it wrong, hmm what about ASUS is that picky? lol

I suggested removing the Marvell drivers as sometimes third party (non-M$) IDE drivers can cause problems - but then ala42 mentioned that the MID of the Princo discs isn’t supported by the LG’s firmware anyway, so I realised the Marvell drivers were probably not the problem

As for Asus drives, unfortunately I have no experience of them. Maybe another member can provide input there.

Ok just one more question… i have my HDD and DVD-RW connected to the same IDE cable, is there a problem by doing this?

It can be a problem. I’d connect the HDD to the Primary IDE cable, and get another cable (Secondary) for the DVD-RW :iagree:

I have an ASUS p5ql pro, it only has one IDE entrance…and 6 sata…well enough good reason to buy a new sata dvd-rw… thanks for the tips guys.
