Problem With DVD Drive

I have just purchased a Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7633a DVD drive for my Acer 1672 laptop. When I try to play a pre-recorded dvd film I get the following error message :

“Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card”

I have downloaded the latest drivers from both the ACer site and ATI who manufacture my graphics card but the problem still remains. Any ideas folks?
Much obliged

Hi and Welcome!

does this happen with all store-bought video DVD discs?
You may try another player software - I don’t know if VLCworks, but since it’s free, it’s worth trying.

If there is some DVD player software installed (like Power DVD or WinDVD), you might also check if there are patches available.
