Cuold someone please help me with this. The error message I am gettting is : Unable to perform start of disc at once

#3

I see that you have a Maddog burner, in this case it’s actually a NEC burner. I also see that the discs are 16x discs and that the burn was tried at 2.4x. Update the burner’s firmware and try burning another disc at 8x or 12x.

Try this firmware - http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/download/en/3520a/3f3_fast.zip

#4

Also you need to fix the problem with DMA not being enabled on 1 HDD & the DVD-ROM. Check this thread .

These Ritek F1 disks keep cropping up in situations like this as the dye is relatively new & up to date firmware is necessary to be able to burn them properly.

#5

ok… after updateing the firmware I did get one good burn. The next burn failed with a different error. I am encloseing the new log file. I did also update the DMA settings on the controllers in device manager (as mentioned in tne article the tim pointed me to). But the Drives themselves did not have a settings tab for me to try to force it to use DMA mode.

Here is the log:

Any ideas on this one?

#6

Don’t burn them at 16x (I already said try 8x or 12x in my last post). For that matter, any 16x media will usually burn best at 8x to 12x. 12x is actually only about 30-40 seconds slower than most 16x burns, so just stick to 8-12x. Ritek F1 is only average media to begin with, if it was premium media then you can try 16x if you don’t have the patience for 12x. BTW, while most 16x media will burn best at 8-12x, burning slower than 6x with 16x media usually gives poor results, so don’t burn too slow.

#7

I second to that (Burn @ 8X & 12X).

#8

Where were you reading the data from to get this message:-

9:18:17 PM #24 TRANSFER -25 File Reader.cpp, Line 364
Error reading data

If you’re trying disk to disk then don’t. If it’s from one of the HDDs then I’d suggest error checking the drives & you really must resolve the DMA issue.

The process had actually been burning for 15mins before that error which suggests to me that you’re reading from one of the drives that doesn’t have DMA enabled correctly as a burning at 16x should be completed in 6-7 mins.

#9

I still ran into the problem with the 12x burn. I will post the log as for this burn as well. It could be teh DMA issue. I do have one (of the 20 drives that I still run, that I was never able to get to work useing DMA, but I dont recall if this ins the one. Some of the drives have been converted to be external USB drives.

It’s still that read error that’s causing the failed burn.

#11

-r cannot be burnt at 2.4x.

Trey better media.

haven’t read the posts word for word but…on the dma setting where you say you checked your drives but couldn’t dee a tab to change. The settings are actually on the disk controllers in device manager not the disk drive entries in device manager.

Also if there are errors xp can disable it in the registry
