I was given this burner the other day, for free, because someone I know who works at CompUSA, got it because of some dumb employee who thought it should have been covered by their insurance, but it wasn't so, they were just going to throw it away. It ended up being rescued and given to me, as I did not have a DVDR.
After trying it in my main rig, I found out it didn't like it for some reason (most likely the power supply I was using), so I popped it into my secondary.
So far, so good. Except for when Windows recognizes it, it says it lacks a digital signature, so it installs generic cd drivers. I went to manually change the drivers, but Lite-On isn't one of the categories, and they say Windows should have it embeded.
Anyways, so I let it install the generic ones, and then I was going to see if it would burn, but Nero/Alcohol 120% refuse to see its burning capability. They show that it can burn DVD/CDs but it won't let me, so I think it may be the drivers.
Oh, it was returned because the guy said it kept having burn fails (but we all know that three-quarters of stuff returned to stores is fine ).
Oh yeah, the system its running on:
Windows 2000 SP4, everything updated
640mb PC100 RAM
2 60GB HDDs
Is this perhaps the result of a failed speed hack or something? I'm really confused. Any help would be much appreciated.
