DVD use different laser, but if it read CD data and drive maintain the speed on audio play, than the head is fine. It must be down the line in a sound circuit or sound card.
If the machine is new I would take it for a check up.
One more thing. There is a phono plug on front of some of the drives, you can plug ear phones in and see if that works.
Other thing is to get a new drive and see if that works. They are not that expensive these days.
Thanks a lot for your help.
My drive doesn’t have the phono plug.
I tried an older DVD-rom drive in my computer, which had PATA connection, and it worked fine. So I suppose that either there is something wrong with my drive, it’s drivers or with the SATA connection.
By the way the device manager says I have a SCSI cdrom device. Could that indicate that there is something wrong?
