Problem burning TDK blurays using nero linux 4/64bit with pioneer bdr-205

Hi, I’m posting here after contacting both Nero support center and the shop I bought the BD-Rs from.
1 Month ago I bought 10 tdk BD-Rs (50GB double layer) from a shop on ebay. I used nero linux-4/64bit-trial-version to burn them with my pioneer bdr-205 and everything went flawlessly well. No failure at all.
I bought another 10 TDK BD-Rs, a nero linux 4 license and I had 3 failure on 4 burnings. I stopped burning and asked for assistance. Got many different answers but none solved the problems. Before posting the answers I’d like to know if any of you experienced the same issue or is interested in this probem. You can find the specs of my computer below.

Intel core 2 duo E8400 3.0 Ghz
4 GB ram
1,5 TB Raid 0 array (3x500GB seagate hardisks)
Motherboard Asus P5N-D
OS Ubuntu 9.10 64bit

I’m seeing the same problem with TDK 4X BD-R DL media on a LG drive. Running 64-bit Fedora 12. I burned 9 of the discs without trouble, the last of those in December, but the disc I’m burning now keeps starting and stopping as if the drive is having buffer underrun errors even though the HD read buffer is full. /var/log/messages shows some interesting things:

I’m remote controlling my Linux machine from my Windows notebook via NoMachine if that makes any difference, though I don’t know what.

I’m going to guess that there’s something new in Linux kernel 2.6.32 that Nero doesn’t like? Back in December Fedora 12 was still using 2.6.31.

I stand corrected. The disc burned and verified OK, it just took a very long time. Something’s not right but at least I didn’t waste a disc.

Nero support first asked me to uninstall nero 64bit and install nero linux 32bit. I can’t do that because dpkg refuses the 32 bit version. Then they blamed the disks.
Now I’ve already lost 3 blurays. Don’t know what to do. Here is the log of one of my failed burning

By the way, Tecnojunkie what kind of LG burner have you got?
The shop I bought the TDK BD-R disks from states that LG [U]GGW-H20L burner has problems burning TDK 4x blurays.

I have a GGW-H20L. Strange, I haven’t had trouble until today? Maybe I should switch to Mitsubishi/Verbatim for the next batch?

My log file doesn’t show anything interesting: I’m not getting that error from SCSIInterface.cpp. Maybe Nero doesn’t properly support buffer underrun protection on your Pioneer drive but does on my LG? That would explain why my burn worked but still leaves the question of why I saw what looked like underruns in the first place. Your Pioneer is a newer drive and they haven’t updated Nero in quite a while.

I bought a new batch of blanks, Mitsubish/Verbatim BD-R DL 6X discs this time, and tried again. Remoting the display with NoMachine caused buffer underruns and a very slow but ultimately successful burn. Using the local display worked perfectly, no underruns. It appears that something has changed to cause resource usage to spike high enough to cause buffer underruns while using NoMachine. It’s obvious in retrospect.

Kappash, I’m guessing that Nero needs to be updated to support your newish Pioneer drive correctly. Other than that I have no idea. Buffer underruns seem unlikely at 2x unless you’re doing something dumb like I was. I’m burning at 4x.
