Problem Burning Taiyo Yuden +/-R 16x (T03) DVDR with My PX-716A

vbimport

#1

I just bought some made in Japan 16x Verbatim DVDR for both +R and -R which is made by Taiyo Yuden with code YudenT03 and TYG03. But i can’t burn data to any of these DVDR with my PX-716A which get me an error of “Power calibration error” in Nero 7 or “invalid address block or write procedure” in Alcohol 120%. I have try patching to the latest firmware with no help, but interestingly, I could burn to TYG02 or YudenT02 disc without this error.

Have anyone else encountered this error or tried to burn this series of disc with this drive with success? Can it be my drive is malfunction or faulty? If anyone know how to fix this, please kindly help me, thank in advance!

#2

Do you have another drive you can try to test these discs on, to find out whether the drive or media is to blame?

My Plextor PX-712A (the model before the 716) writes both of these without problems.

#3

I am getting my friend to help me testing out those new disc (that shall took a few days through). I was just wondering is it because PX-716a does not support the writting on these disc at all. Since PX-712A support them, it just sounded even more weird that PX-716a which is later cannot.

#4

I just checked the compatability list at plex site and it shows
both dvd - + 16x TY are fine for the 716A…
top of the list in compatability…

I have used the +R with no problems…

#5

Maybe i can help…

I have more than TY ( Verbatim ) +R 16X, that cannot be recorded in the Plextor 716, with the same error…

Well i did get some units, by chance…

But i do have the same Media, but from Plextor, that burns well…

-R 16X ( TY ), is achieved, at best quality, when burned at 8X…

So, the Verbatim is used with no problems by my Benq or Lite-On…

#6

My Plextor PX-716A (TLA# 0309) can burn both YUDEN000 T03 (TH000021, TDK) and TYG03 (GH000135, Verbatim) with good quality.
Which firmware do you use?

#7

Sorry only now anserw…

I use the last firmware, 1.10.

I have more than 50 TY from verbatim, +R.

I can say, that in 10 of them, maybe the 716 can burn 1 of them…

However, Benq 1640 and Lite-On 20x, burn them, with no issues…

So, we can blame Plextor 716, or, the 1.10 firmware… :cop:

It`s funny, since the same id is used in Plextor +R 16X, and the 716 loves them… :flower:

#8

I check the disc with my friend BenQ W1640, and it burn without problem. So i can assume the fault not lied on the discs. Anyway i also observed one interesting problem (or shall i call it feature?) with my PX-716A recently, as everyone know we cannot change the flag of a DVD-R (at least i never heard before). But all the disc burned by my writer, be it what type would be flaged to DVD-ROM. Since some of you guys also gotten the same problem, then mybe it is plextor actually don’t support these disc on PX-716A. I wonder why this happened, since plextor alway recommend TYG disc? Anyway, thank for your info, at least i can tell where the problem is now.

Just for your info: i using the lastest firmware by plextor (1.10)

#9

i got the exact same problem as you. it is the plextor not the discs. this made me lose all faith in plextor and i am now moving away from them. my pioneer 112 is better tbh. the only good point about plextor is its rma service which is faultless.

#10

Don`t say that…is the only media i have issues…
Even so, those Ty from Verbatim, sucks!

Let me try the new FW 1.11…lolol

#11

Yep…its official

FW 1.11, still didn`t fix the Verbatim +R16X Taiyo Yuden…

So is this the disc problem? Weird, i thought TY discs are the best out there in the market! From your scan, it seen the result aren’t very good; 5359 PIF is alot, i used to get result of below 1000 PIF with my px-716a on T02 disc at 8x speed. Maybe is the disc fault.

I agree…even they are genuine TY Made in Japan.

Inside circle is the number TH00021

List of compatibility of Plextor said they are just good…

But the same ID, used by Plextor Media is very Good…

Go figure…
