Problem burning NEC DVD_RW ND-3500 AG

I have been using dvd shrink for many years, but now burning DVD has become impossible. I have Nero Express 6. After analysing, encoding and burning in dvd shrink I get the message “Burn Process Failed” met 4 X (5.540 KB/sec). The same problem when I try to burn dvd with Nero directly.

I have copied the log text below:

Update Nero. :wink:
You can also create iso image with shrink and burn with ImgBurn.

You might want to update your firmware to 2.1B from the NEC site here . Also try using a quality +RW like Verbatim.

RW media does fail more frequently than they’d have you believe. Also a regular full format/erase with ImgBurn/DVDINFO Pro or CD Speed is advisable.

I have tried the firmware upgrade and it worked for a couple of days, I’ve proceeded to burn about 10 DVD+R without problems. Today, it failed again (Burn Process Failed) on me !! I was using quality DVD+R at the time of failure. What can I do now ?

Can anybody make sense of this??

James , I don’t think that those RW disks would be described as quality. I ony use Verbatim RW media these days having had too many other brands fail on me.

This is DVD+RW media, not DVD+R, and the burner has a hard time withthem…

Hi guys, let me explain: this is just the last of several brands of DVD+R I tried to burn on (Fujifilm, Exell, TDK, Maxell, Traxdata), and because I didn’t want to throw away another disc, I used a DVD+RW the last time around (so I could erase it should burning fail again), and it failed again just like the other DVD+R before had done.

In fact, I’ve used many different brands during the years, both DVD-R(W) as DVD+R(W). They always worked perfectly fine, I must have burned 500 DVD’s or something. So I think that if the discs were the problem I should have had many problemes before?

How come this burner I have, it worked so well all these years and now is showing erratic behaviour? Is a new burner the solution?

Also, I’ve tried installing the firmware update again, but this time it didn’t work.

Well nothing lasts for ever & it sounds like your 3500 has served you well. Unfortunately I think that maybe it’s time to retire it.

Thanks everybody for your reactions, first of all.

Well, it seems the burner is working again, strangely enough. :confused:

I tried everything, even changing DMA to PIO and back again. Firmware upgrade again, and suddenly after a few days, it worked again! That is, with certain brands (before it burned anything), and mostly not with DVD+RW or DVD-RW. So the damn thing has suddenly become picky!
I’m glad it’s working again though.

TDK DVD+R and -R seems to be going well for the moment, I hope it stays that way. A brand called Exell fails miserably, every time. Other brands fail or work.

General lesson learned: stick with the known brands
DVD(+/-)R(W), and once you find a brand that works, don’t tamper with it, unless you have oceans of time and patience!
