Problem Burning Movie to DVD

I’m a newbie, both to this forum and to copying movies, and I have a problem I hope someone can help me with.

My set-up consists of an LG GSA4167B burner, DVD-Shrink and Nero. DVD-Shrink works fine in copying the movie to my hard disk, but the DVD burned from these files with Nero does not play on my PC or in my set top player. I’ve tried with three different movies. In trying to diagnose the problem, I took one of the movies to my work site and used the same software and blank DVD from same spindle to try a copy there. It worked fine! So how likely is it that the problem is the burner itself and how can I check?

And I almost forgot, if I drag data files (Word and Excel) from C: to the DVD drive, I can open and work with them from there.

Help, please!

Welcome to the forum. Your problem is probably bad media or a disc that is incompatible with your players. Some players don’y like +R unless you use bitsetting. Look at CDSpeed and see if the options indicate that the 4167 is doing this. I also think Nero and Shrink will offer a box to bitset.

My 4166 does this automatically but it is a totally different drive so your problem may be elsewhere. Wht media are you using?

I’ve tried a no-name brand and Verbatim. Same result for both.

Ran CDSpeed. Got an Unrecovered read error on the cheapie no-name and a Logical Block Out of Range error on the Verbatim. Log from the Verbatim run follows:

After reading the +R Verbatim burn quality test on the review section of CDFreaks, it seems unlikely that it’s the discs. These discs should certainly playback on your PC. You might want to disable Norton Internet Security (seems to cause more problems than it solves), the Indexing Service on your hard-drive and also anything running in the background that would be competing for hard-drive access while you’re burning discs.
