Problem burning DL DVD

Hi all,

I’m a newbie here (and with DVD burning) and I have a problem I couldn’t find the answer to. Basically, I can’t burn DL DVD’s (have made a few coasters already) and I get the error message “Unable to Recover TOC” which seems to happen at the switch to the 2nd layer. This has happened no matter which way I have tried - DVDShrink with Nero 6, DVDDecrypter with Imgburn (log text below), whatever. I’ve had absolutely no problem backing up the same DVD’s with DVDShrink to a DVD 5, but I just wanted to try doing it without compression. Can anyone help? Any ideas will be much appreciated.

TIA

Do you have enough temporary data space for the image?

Your burner doesn’t work correctly with this DL media!
Use Verbatim DL media, and burn the DL images with the software you have created them with…

Thanks for your replies. I did check the disk space available beforehand, and it was more than 10 GB on the partition where the image was saved, so I am assuming this was enough. As to the media, I have had the exact same problem with 3 different brands (TDK, RIDATA, IMATION). I will try Verbatim as soon as I can find some (the most convenient store does not stock them unfortunately).

All DL media … EXCEPT VERBATIM … is junk. And by “junk”, I mean “junk in the vast majority of burners”. Some (much) of it is just plain ol’ JUNK junk. Which is terrible considering that they charge $2.50 per disc!

Also the ONLY known good way to do a dual-layer copy is:

  1. Run AnyDVD (or, I suppose, DVD43 or DVD CSS+Region Free) in the background.

  2. Run DVD Decrypter. Mode->ISO READ.

  3. Run DVD Decrypter/ImgBurn. Mode->ISO WRITE.

That’s it. Any other method WILL bite you in the butt.

Thanks again. I’ll try your suggestion re media. I hope it works!!

It would be probably safer if you had more HD space to spare like close to 12-15 GB for DL.
