Probem with HP dvd 1040i DMA-Driver error

Hi,

I just got a new HP dvd 1040i and im getting an error message in nero 7.5 “DMA-driver error, CRC error”

Ive been looking at other threads with my same problem, and ive tried suggestions and they never worked, i uninstalled the IDE channel and rebooted, ive also tried other media (Varbatim and HP both -R and +R). I have also made sure that DMA is enabled and not PIO in both Windows and my BIOS. Not only does it not seem to burn, it really doesnt like to read either, when i put a DVD or blank DVD in, it finds that its there (the auto start menu comes up asking what you want to do), but if you were to go and access the drive yourself, it will just lock up my computer until i eject the DVD, ive tried CD’s and its the same thing. I tested the drive to make sure it ran, by booting both the Windows Vista DVD and Fedora 8 DVD at startup, they both boot, obviously meaning the drive should be working. if anyone has any ideas, i would like to hear them, and below is the Nero error report, oh and yeah i am running Windows Vista Ultimate…

What is your problem that your triple or quad post, aka spam?!!?

Replace the ide cable, and dont try to burn at 16x!

You seem to have a CD-RW installed.

Make sure that your new HP is Master [on the IDE cable], and the CD-RW is slave. DVD burners don’t always like to be slave to CD-RW drives.

I’m not sure, but I want to think that these drives are either set for master or cable select straight from the factory…in any case, check that the drive is also jumpered correctly when you make it master. Same goes for making the Sony–check that it is set as slave.

Well, i am not totally sure why it posted 4 times, i was kind of puzzled my self about that =/ . anyway, well, i am certain that the jumper on the DVD drive is master, and that the jumper on the CD burner is master. i have also tried it on slower speeds (down to 6x)… the one thing i havent done was raplaced the IDE cable with a “newer” one… ill try that and see what happens

Wait, did you say that BOTH are jumpered to master? The DVDRW drive should be jumpered to master and the drive installed on the end of the IDE cable [farthest from the motherboard]. The CDRW drive should be jumpered slave and installed on the middle connector [between mobo and DVDRW].

The new cable might also help.

YEAH sorry wrong, lol im sorry huge typo, !CORRECTION!! CD-RW is slave and the DVD is master

a new cable worked, i would of never thought that, because the BIOS didnt give me an error message saying something along the lines of “no 80 conductor cable installed”
a new cable worked, i would of never thought that, because the BIOS didnt give me an error message saying something along the lines of “no 80 conductor cable installed”
…because the cable was b0rked anyway.
