Preparing a hard drive for installation

I have a 60 gig HD, i want to install it into a dell, i know how to install but need to know how to reformat or to prepair it for installation, Thank you

First make sure jumper is correctly set, i.e. set as master if it’ll be used as master or set as slave if it’ll be used as slave. It should be connected to the end connection of IDE cable if it is to be master, and it should be connected to second IDE cable connection if it is to be slave. You may download the harddisk utility from drive manufacturer’s site to prepare the drive if it’s replacing an existing drive, or simply right click the drive in Explorer and select format if it’s the slave drive. If you’re going to install Windows anew, simply boot to Windows install CD which will give option to format the drive before installing Windows.
