Power calibration error with ND-6500A

Guys, I have read the posts on this forum, but it’s hard for me to understand. I don’t know much about burners, discs and stuff. I want to ask you for your help.
 Pleeaaaaseee!!!
Here is my problem: I’m using a notebook [HP Pavilion]. The optical unit [DVD RW] was giving me hard times [the tray was not opening all the times, sometimes writing only half of discs…, all kind of errors]. So, because at HP the price is $340, I decided to buy another unit from ebay. I got one for $115, a NEC. Now, I was writing fine CDs, but when I tried to burn a DVD I got this error: “Power calibration error”. I sent the log to the seller, and he changed my unit. But, I have exactly the same problem with this one. He said he tested the optical unit and it should work.
Now, can someone take a look over the log and tell me what should I do? I also have the InfoTool log, but I think it’s too big to paste it here. So, if anyone can help with this problem, I would be more than happy to upload it somewhere, or to email it.
Thank you in advance for your help.

OK, chef, I do apreciate your help. But… I’m not sure I understand. I told you I don’t know much about this stuff. You are telling me the discs are bad. It’s Verbatim +R. Should I try something else?
And about the lines in the log… man, I have no idea what is that suppose to mean.
Could you be more specific?
Thank you.

One more thing: the Info Tool report is right here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/24804900/InfoTool.txt

#4

Please stop trying to bitset, turn it to automatic or off in the Nero Recorder settings.

Actually Verbatim DVD+R is one of the best disc types… if this doesn’t work, you could try Taiyo Yuden DVD+R or DVD-R or Verbatim DVD-R.

#5

I don’t know what bitset is and where shoul I find it, but I will try to figure out and I will let you know what’s going on.
Thank you.

#6

In Nero recorder settings, options, like kg_evilboy said.

#7

I really appreciate all your help and your patience.
I found that. It was on Automatic. I have no option to set it off. I tried all the options there and I tried with other softwares (like DVD Decrypter), I get the same message: Power calibration error. I tried to update the firmware. Look what I got:

I’m loosing my mind. Any suggestions?

#8

Your drive is OEM and you only should flash with another firmware from the SAME OEM ever.

#9

If you’re looking for trouble, maybe Binflash can help.
(Definitely not recommended though.)

#10

You mean… I can trash it, right?
And why it’s not recommended?
Guys, I’m desperate. Please help me with this issue.

#11

I think all NEC and Optiarc slimline drives (except for maybe the 5100/5500) should work fine with any OEM firmware. So I don’t really see a risk here as long as you backup your firmware before flashing a new one.

#12

Liggy, can you help me to do that? The firmware backup and upgrade?

#13

Just follow the flashing guide.

#14

Thank you very much, Liggy. I will try this when I’ll be home. I’m at work right now. I’ll keep you informed.

#15

In that case, its really ok.

#16

Guys, thank you very much. The problem is solved. I upgraded the firmware to 2.81, using Binflash. IT WORKS!!!
You are the best!!!
