Very different results. OK, those media is old, but is the media or the writer to blame?

My old 755 and 716 also have very different results, sometimes good or very good and next time on same media horrible. I avoid to use them meanwhile, especially on better media. Exception: If I have to overburn a DVD+R

#1189

Hard to say what the issue was. The first disc on a spindle (especially printable surface) is often of poor quality. Not to mention AutoStrategy was essentially trying to “figure out” the disc. I’d have to burn a few more to be sure.

Plextor PX-760A firmware 6.06

Does anyone know this soft? What version and for whom?
The first time I encounter such firmware in these constructions.

PX-760A (1.07 free) TLA#0103 - (self-)refurbished with SF-DS10N, thanks to czary2mary1 for the tip!
Verbatim 16x DVD+R made in China
MCC 004
burned @ 6x
AutoStrategy: auto, created a write strategy
PoweRec: on, did not jump in

Very weird result with these MCC 004 made in China. Very good PIEs, very bad POEs.

TA Test (inner, middle, outer zone/jitter, peak shift): Very Good (4, 4), Good (4, 3), Very Good (4, 4)

Burst Test:
PIE (Avg., Max., Total): 3.07, 20, 49221
POE (Avg., Max., Total): 0.90, 310, 115028
POF: 0

MCC 004 Made in China? Strange

#1194

CMC Magnetics has a big factory in China.

#1195

Uhm, I don´t know. Never had MiC with MCC 004, mostly MiT or MiI. Maybe in Germany is not available, MiT is here very rare in last years, mostly MiI

#1196

I got them from Verbatim Germany as replacement for these really bad MCC 004 discs.

#1197

Ah, OK.

Those other media was real awful. When did you buy it? Some month ago I saw in a little electronic discounter a few MiT-Verbatims and in a Real-market. But this is fading away and transformed to MiI

#1198

Both (the bad ones and the replacement) were from 2014 I’m afraid. I don’t burn that many DVDs anymore, I still have the 25pack made in India they sent as replacement as well. That’s gonna be some fun with those discs.

Verbatim 16x DVD+R made in India by MBI 02/2014
MCC 004
PX-760A TLA#0103 (1.07free) (self re-furbished with SF-DS10N, thanks to czary2mary1 for the tip!)
burned @ 6x
AutoStrategy: Auto - Did create a new write-strategy
PoweRec: On - Did NOT jump in

So the Plextor seems to handle these MBI MCC004s better than the Pioneer BDR-209E/M, still - like with all (?) newer Verbatim media a (far too) high number of POEs.
Some weird beta as well.

18x seems to be to fast for this media, but the 16x-burn is very nice
