Post your NEC / Optiarc CD-R burns+scans here

I saw the same thread for Pioneer drives Pioneer CD-R burns+scans here,
so i thought maybe it’s not bad to have such thread for NEC / Optiarc.
Mostly useful for Audio CD freaks like me.

(note: if there’s already a dedicated thread for CD-R burns only, this can be deleted).

Here is first burn of my new AD-7200A
Scan result is shit with AD-7200 (both original 1.06 & Liggy’s 1.09) :a ,
but is excellent with combo Sony CRX320EE(Liteon rebagged) , also the same in Kprobe with Liteon SOHW-832S.
Cheap CD-R media branded RiData : Ritek Co. Type7 ( Phtalocyanine: gold ) @ 16X with EAC.

I don’t know why AD-7200A is such a bad scanner.
Can some one tell me which drive should i trust and scan with ?

They look nice, but the results are useless.

:disagree: Your Liteons are bad CD scanners. Liteon DVD writers are useless for scanning CD, same seems to apply to their Combos also.

I’d trust the results form the Optiarc more. Results look quite normal considering the “Cheap” Riteks you have used.

For comparision, you may have a look at these results of other users with variuos drives and Ritek media. Additionally, you have to consider, that not all Ritek made discs are equal.

Optiarc AD-7200A
Cheap CD-R media branded RiData : Ritek Co. Type7 ( Phtalocyanine: gold )
burned EAC test CD @ 16X
scanned with both combo Sony CRX320EE (Liteon rebagged) & Liteon SOHW-832S

#1 & #2 : is with write offset: 0
#3 & #4 : is with correct write offset: +18

Same media, same burner , with write offset:0 scores 97 , after applying correct write offset scores 88 !!!

Thanks for replying.
But i don’t like those C1 errors  so i have to fool myself and only scan with liteon :o
But i don’t like those C1 errors  so i have to fool myself and only scan with liteon :o
…and that’s exactly what you’re doing when using a LiteOn DVD burner for scanning CD media, since they only report the worst kind of C1 errors (E31 instead of E11+E21+E31).

The same may apply for LiteOn combo drives, although I don’t remember exactly.

Of the scanners you have used so far, I would consider only the Optiarc as a reasonably reliable scanner.

well here is a scan of my new optiarc ad7201a similer to yours ive just got some verbatim and there even worse i thought verbatim was good media,
the first scan is with ritek and the second with vertatim is it the drive or the media

Ok after DrageMester post , i started to read more and now i think really these scans are not useful and i have to fimd a good scanner and run BLER test to find the truth.
I think E11 E21 E31 E12 E22 can show the real difference.
