Post your CD-R Reviews HERE

I thought it would be cool to start a review thread, so here goes. I am also taking up OC-Freaks idea of saving one of every CD-R i will ever use, since I only started in 2000, and buy in large numbers, I have only tried a few so far but just bought 3 more brands.

PS - I would identify all these but I am not getting my new burner until next week sometime....

Durabrand 16x 700mb CD-R's - These are OK, dont even think of burning faster than 16x, they will come out about 30%+ damaged. They are ok at 16x, taking some damage but reading fine. These are cheap as hell, so I didnt mind.

HP 16x 700mb CD-R's - These are good cds. You can burn at higher than rated OK. They do get scratched easy so be careful. Otherwise a good cd.

Kodak Ultima 16x 700mb CD-R's - These are my favorite so far. Burn at over 20x the rated speed sometimes. Rarely damage much and produced few coasters. It is hard to find these cheap where I live.

I also ordered/bought more that I havent tried yet.

I got 100 32x Khypermedia CD-R's at Office Max yesterday for 5 bucks after rebate. For 5 bucks you cant really go wrong, if they suck Ill just have fun sticking them in the microwave to pass time.

I also order 2 different CD-R's off of ebay from the same manufacturer. 50 WorldwideCDR 20x Silver Solution CD-R's, said to look very close to commercial cds, and 50 24x Diamond Solution CDRs by the same company which apparently have NO TINT. I got both of these for a total of 32 bucks with no shipping charge. Once I get them I will tell you how they are! (Both use Phthal dye, this company also makes a Platinum Solution which uses modified Cyanine dye. Everyone order these and tell me how they are.....)

Good idea ! Posting here, to not get the thread off-topic, but would be cool if more people would post their experiences below, but included ATIP information would also be very convinient, as it clearly shows what manufacaturers are bad, and which aren't

Please remember I checked these with a 32x Lite-On, so smart burn will not report a writting speed faster than 32x.
Also I have not really had any problems with these discs, with the exception of the Comp-USA 8x, some were coasters out of the pack, some went bad burning, and a few that did make it ,can now not be fully read. Pitch in everybody, lets help us find the good media. The FujiFilms are my favorite, for some unknown reason

Great thread!

Burner = Lite-On LTR-32123S, F/W XS0X (32x/12x/40x)
Fried burner = HP CD-Writer Plus 8200a F/W 1.0g

My experiences:

Fujifilm spindle-pack, multicolored assortment with a nice top coating:
*Taiyo Yuden, made in Japan, natural (ivory) colored spindle/cap.
*Cyanine dye, type 1, ATIP: 97 24 01.
*700MB (80min) rated for 24x, Smart-BURN limit for 32x.
*Personally rated as excellent. No visible defects, low C1 count, no C2s.
*spindle-pack of 30 is identical in size to the 50-count, but you get a styrofoam spacer in the bottom with a “buffer CD” that is just the polycarbonate. Pretty swanky looking.
*Highly recommended.

Fujifilm 5-pack slim case and 10-pack full case, individually-wrapped, lacquered with silver topcoat:
*Taiyo Yuden, made in Japan, white jewel case (full size).
*Cyanine dye, type 1, ATIP: 97 24 01.
*700MB (80min) rated for 16x, Smart-BURN limit for 16x (older DX dye).
*Also rated as excellent. No visible defects, low C1 count that increases slightly as the end approaches (probably due to HP burner), No C2s, discs are now 1 year old.
*Highly recommended if you don’t care about speed.

Memorex spindle-pack, white topcoat over lacquer:
*Taiyo Yuden, made in Japan, black colored spindle/cap.
*Cyanine dye, type 1, ATIP: 97 24 01.
*700MB (80min) rated for 32x, Smart-BURN limit for 32x.
*Rated as above average. Some visible defects in the polycarbonate, pinpoint bright silver spots in some locations, low C1 count, No C2s except with a few visibly damaged/defective discs.
*Given the price of US $10 per spindle of 50, it’s worth it even if there is the occasional slip in quality control. Recommended, but verify your burn.

Some problems noted with burning audio CDs at 32x. No problems with CD/DVD-ROM readback, but instead with standalone player… Slow down! (4x-8x recommended)
