My first scan of my new DW1655 black bulk, arrived and built in my pc today!
written at 8x on Verbatim DVD-R TYG02.
Solidburn off for supported media/Overspeed off/WOPC on
Not bad… too bad about the spike in the middle though that makes the PIF total too high.

Well, i had just a look in some german online shops and it seems to be the only version available at the moment, bulk and black, however it’s lookin good!

#3

True, it’s the only available at the moment.
This is my 2nd scan with a Verbatim 16x written at 8x.
Note again a PIF spike in the middle and jitter is a bit higher.
Still not bad though.
Please do not ask for scans written at 16x, my computer is too slow for it
I think with virgin firmware, the drive already shows its potential.
Maybe I will test lightscribe someday too :iagree:

#4

My friend, the write speed graph (white line) indicates the disc was burn at 16x

Very good results for the first FW version. :iagree:

#5

What i’m interested in is a scan with some Taiyo Yuden media.
Actually i’m waitin for the retail version in beige.

You mean the first scan is not Taiyo Yuden media?

#7

Great to see you got it working that fast. I was told today I wouldn’t be receiving my external casing anytime soon, so I’m gonna buy one myself tomorrow as I work very close to a large reseller to which I should have gone in the first place.

I will get some scans of lower quality media tomorrow for comparison (Platinums).

Did you get it at the same price? € 52,50 is ridiculously low.
I almost want to go buy a second one, although I have absolutely no use for it whatsoever ;), or does a burner wear down faster if you also use it as a reader (I need to convince my wife)?

#8

Sorry i forgot to say the YudenT02’s.

#9

Nice…thanks for sharing.

#10

or does a burner wear down faster if you also use it as a reader (I need to convince my wife)?

Nope, writing wears a drive down faster I guess. But next year I am gonna buy a new BenQ anyway (maybe the DW1665 :stuck_out_tongue: ), so who cares?

Thanks to you my friend, I got my BenQ so fast
check out the price at zercom.nl, it’s even lower! I think prices will rise when they will be out of stock fast.

I am curious about how well your Platinums will perform!

edit: my drive was also made in China, so all that stuff about made in China drives perform worse than drives made in Malaysia, I think it’s just based on rumours…

#11

I agree %100.

#12

Are there any shops in the UK which stock this drive?

#13

USA user won’t be able to respond to this thread since these two drives have not be marketed in US yet.

#14

I would be a little worried having a nearly identical large spike with 2 different kinds of media…

#15

This is a scan of a 1.5 year old Arita 4x which I just burned using DVD Decrypter (it’s an ISO).

I don’t know if this is good or bad as I do not have any knowledge of these kind of things. I would appreciate it if someone were to explain these results to me.

I’m gonna do an 8x burn using a Platinum disc now and post the results here shortly.

#16

i wnat a benq 1640. dothey sell to usa -zercom.nl?

#17

Not that good because PIF total is way too high. I think with a PIF total below 500 you have a very good burn

AnotherFruitCake: Your scan is good, but not great. RICOHJPNR01 can be variable in quality, but when you have good ones they are usually very good. I burn these at 8x in several of my drives, mostly with very good results.

You seem to have a bad spot on the disc at approximately the 0.3 gig mark. You might want to examine the surface of the disc, very close in to the center hub, and see if there are any anomolies or even dust present.

All in all, this is a good burn but not one that you would ordinarily brag about. You might want to try another one at 8x, making sure that the disc is clean before you start.

Not bad, but CMC aren’t very good media.
Don’t you have some Verbatims to test with?
Also you shouldn’t host your picture on imageshack, but in here.
