For those of you who wonder: the little slowdowns of my TRT in the AOPEN DVD-Rom are caused by the higher jitter values…

I am not sure how come I am getting some bad PIF spikes in my burns. The media is high quality, the burner is good too, from what I see in this thread. How come my burns are getting so much PIFs?

Sony DVD+R 8x
Media Code: YUDEN000T02
Firmware: BCDC
Burn Speed: 4x

The most likely explanation is dust, fingerprints or scratches on the disc surface. Try looking at the surface of the disc under a strong artificial light, and you might be able to see something. Looking at the disc under normal ambient light is not enough to discover everything that can negatively impact your burn.

#991

Most of these scans were run right after the burn. Does having high PIFs affect the playback of DVD movies or games? Will video stutter and skip with PIFs spikes I have in my disc? Thanks for your reply.

#992

Depends on how much correlation there is to your intended playback drives reading abilities. Other words, try the disc in your DVD player & see :stuck_out_tongue:

#993

Are you assuming that your discs must be clean because you burned them right after taking them out of the cakebox or jewelcase? You shouldn’t make that assumption - virtually all of my discs have dust on them right from the cakebox when inspected carefully.

It depends. Players are very different in their tolerance to bad/mediocre media and PIE/PIF scanning doesn’t tell you everything. There’s nothing I would call alarming in your scan, but that doesn’t guarantee readability unfortunately.

some of my better ones

#996

@userix - You are burning at 4x. The 1650 will burn much better at 8x and 12x with this media.

#997

Philips -R 16x @ 12x

#998

DW1650 BCFC
Default QSuite settings. (WOPC on, SB off)
Burnt at 12X with Nero Burning Rom.
Scanned with DW1640 to avoid speed dips.

This drive had been giving mediocre burns with BCIC any media. Quality was usually 95-96, with PIE 300000+, with this media. I flashed it over to Phillips, then back to BenQ trying BCDC, BCIC, then to BCFC, and got this on my first burn. I think it’s pretty nice for this media. (Vertabim MIT)

#999

That’s a nice burn.
