Post your 1620 Dual Layer Media Here

Looks like DVD+R DL media is starting to become affordable so I thought it would be good to have a Dual Layer Media ONLY thread. If one of you moderators don’t agree, you are obviously welcome to delete it.

I know there are only a few different media codes for DVD+R DL but there are a lot of different firmware revs and speed combos to try so post your results here.

Also, I would like to make a request that I believe will be helpful to everybody trying to search the thread. Please include the media brand, full media code, firmware rev and burn speed in your post as plain text.

Firmware: B7T9

Media:
Memorex RITEK-D01-01 @ 2.4x
Verbatim MKM-001-00 @ 4x

My first DL scans were done with Kprobe on my LiteOn.

I will do the CD Speed Disc Quality scan this evening and post them, too.

Ok, a CD Speed scan…

Firmware: B7T9

Verbatim MKM-001-00 @ 4x

1st scan: CD Speed on BenQ 1620 B7T9
2nd scan: KProbe on LiteOn 832 CG5G

Interesting, so which one is really reading the first layer first and the second layer last?

Tried Ritek(Ridata branded) and Verbatim.

Scans look close to the ones that have been posted.
BenQ didn’t write Ritek good at all. Disk stopped at layer break.
Verbatim plays no problem but picture pixilates at different times.

NEC does a little better with Ritek but still not acceptable burn.

Has anyone recorded a full DL disk and not had pixilation in the picture played?

I used Decrypter in ISO with MDS to rip. Decrypter in ISO with MDS file to burn.

So far I am two for two with my Verbatim DL media. Both burns succeeded and play flawlessly in my Sony DVP-NC655P.

DVD Decrypter with ISO image and NO MDS file.

That scan looks just like my Ritek DL scan with the only difference being I got a quality score of 35. Funnily enough it plays back flawlessly in my LG standalone.

I obviously didn’t think about this too much. They both are reading from sector 0 to sector N but then, why such a difference in the scans? Laser angles/focusing?

Could not find the superior Verbatim Dual Layer, so here is a Memorex Dual Layer(Ritek D01).
Not too thrilled with these, my LG 4163 would not recognize either the blanks or the burned ones(even with DVD-ROM bitsetting and latest firmware).
It works fine in my Philips 642 standalone, no stutters at layer change or edge of disc.
Burned at 2.4X with DVDDecrypter, from ISO image created with the same. MDS file used to load the ISO.
