Hello,

Sorry for my english (french…), I have download the firmware for the Optiarc BD-5850H 1.71, but when I try it never found my BD drive to start the update.
With Binflash software I try too, it found my drive correctly (Optiarc BD-5850H 1.00) but never want to flash with the EP000268698.exe file (option windows flasher.exe).
When I try to Dump it didn’t work but the green led stay switch on. My dvd stay lock (impossible to use) but at this moment when I retry the firmware it found my BD drive but say firmware update failed.
Finally after restart nothing change the firmware is still 1.00

Does anybody have a solution for me, because I have Bluray reading problems and I hope to slove it with the new firmware.

Thanks for your help, Jérémy

The behaviour you describe happens because of an OEM mismatch between your drive’s firmware and the firmware you’re trying to flash the drive with.

Binflash won’t help doing an OEM crossflash unfortunately. There’s nothing you can do to force an OEM crossflash.

The EP000268698.exe file is a software packager, which contains inside the Sony OEM *.exe flasher, which in turn contains the encrypted binary firmware. Binflash requires a binary firmware file, not an *.exe flasher file to work. Even if you have a binary firmware file, Binflash will still not be able to flash that firmware file to a drive which doesn’t match the OEM code of the firmware inside your drive. If the OEM codes don’t match, the drive will reject the new firmware file and flashing won’t go ahead. As I said, because the Sony Optiarc firmwares are encrypted and we don’t know how to decrypt them in order to patch them, there is no way currently to do an OEM crossflash on any Sony Optiarc BluRay drives.

Hello,

Thank you for the all this details ! I understand why it will never work.
So now the best way for me is to sell my Optiarc (if somebody is interested) and buy an another manufacture which is better.

Thanks for your help.

[QUOTE=cvs;2608469]No it doesn’t! It shows a BDR-S05 drive (kernel ID43).

Because that’s what the second picture shows?

Does anyone have the BDR-S05 Kernel Version “ID43” they could upload or email???

It was supposed to be uploaded here: HERE, but is instead the BDR-205 “GENERAL” kernel, not the BDR-S05 “ID43”.

Appreciate it if you can find this – thanks heaps!!

From what I see, the S05 identifies as a BDR-205 in its firmware. As long as you have an ID43 kernel, though, you have something equivalent to an S05. … But I guess you flashed it and it didn’t change to ID43, huh? Hopefully someone can help.

EDIT: wasn’t there a firmware update package here for the S05 which was supposed to have the kernel?

#353

Thanks @Albert – I haven’t flashed it yet though.

I am after the “ID43” firmware kernel version for BDR-S05 like @2601 has (see his screenshot of PX-B940SA ID17 --> BDR-S05 ID43 http://club.myce.com/f61/post-new-firmware-tool-announcements-here-blu-ray-hd-dvd-drives-only-223975/index10.html#post2605402) so at least it exists but @2601 maybe the only guy that has this and he cannot be reached via PM as his messages are full completely…
He did post what people requested as “ID43” but it was actually the “GENERAL” kernel instead and no one seems to have noticed: http://club.myce.com/f61/post-new-firmware-tool-announcements-here-blu-ray-hd-dvd-drives-only-223975/index10.html#post2605558

If I can get the ID43 kernel, I can then flash retail “BDR-S05 ID43” firmware from Pioneer officially.

Can anybody help with any revision of “BDR-S05 ID43” kernel?? I don’t think that @cvs & @chompy noticed @2601 didn’t actually post the “ID43” kernel, but the “GENERAL” instead.

Thanks heaps guys for your time!

I can’t find any useful info on hacking 5500 firmwares (except the fact it’s encrypted inside the flasher), however this drive’s FWs were discussed in a few past years and for some reason no one have published links on these latest FW’s. Please backup everywhere when possible. These and most of all other ODD’s slowly move to EOL and end of support.

Note! I’ve attached backed up firmwares downloaded from the links above. Please first try to download from these links. When they will die you can get files from the attachments below.
Forum settings allow to attach only pictures and ZIP files of max 600KB of size. Multivolume ZIP archives can be created, but they are non standard and problematic to handle.
Firmware updates are about of 2MB in size. So I’ve compressed them in multivolume RAR archives. Then renamed all .RAR parts to .ZIPs.
To unpack you should download all the parts of particular FW, then rename all parts to have .RAR extension, then unpack by any RAR-supportive archiver (e.g. WinRar, 7Zip, etc.) to get original files. I didn’t altered any of original files!

The “Optiarc BC-5500S Firmware 2.1” below is in fact v1.VB, and won’t work on drives with 1.7x firmware. It will only work on suitable Sony OEM drives (Sony refers to these drives as “BC5500S V2”).

LG BH16NS55 Firmware 1.03 has been released today:

Do they ever publish changelogs for updates?
