Porn & Music DVD's: which combo?

I’m looking to buy a dvd-burner and software. I want to be able to rip and burn specific chapters only. For example, with porn or music dvd’s, I want to rip only the specific scenes or music videos that I like and burn them to a blank dvd. These are just specific chapters on the dvd’s.

What burner and what software should I get, and how easy is it to do this?

Thanks in advance!

It’s going to be pretty difficult. It’s possible, but difficult.

Its not difficult at all. Do a Google search for SmartRipper. That program can rip single chapters from a DVD. Make sure you make two streams, audio and video. From there, you need to get your hands on a program called DVDMaestro to authorize the video so it will work on a standard DVD player. Lastly, all you have to do is burn it back to DVD-R with any burning app (I personally use Nero)

Will this produce ‘perfect’ copies, without any loss in quality? Just a quick look on google shows that SmartRipper looks like it’s usually used to create vcd’s. I want ‘perfect’ copies of specific chapters from DVD.

Thanks.

Of course it will! Generally, any ripping program out there NEVER reduces the quality of the movie. Its what you do with it next that does (encoding process) DVD Maestro is a DVD authorizing program, and since the A/V streams will already be MPEG-2 DVD format, DVD Maestro won’t have to encode at all, just basically set up the DVD file structure. In the entire process, not a single frame will be lost or re-encoded in anyway so the quality will still be 100%. Oh and the reason you see SmartRipper being used to rip to VCD is simple… How many people own a DVD burner? Not many. How many people own CD burners… A lot. Because of that, more people are going to be asking about VCD rather than DVD.

It’s been a long time since I asked this question and I’ll still haven’t put together a new system.

Soooo…as I’m looking to get started soon, I want to ask again since the technology and software has likely changed since I first asked.

Specifically, I’d like to be able to take a music (video or concert) dvd and rip only certain chapters (songs or videos). I’d like to be able to rip from several dvd’s and then make my own compilation.

Similarly, I’d like to take porn dvd’s and rip only certain chapters (scenes) and make compilation dvd’s.

Any suggestions on software and guides to do this?

Thanks in advance!

I might as well throw in a couple of more features that would be ideal, but not as important as being able to rip individual chapters.

For example, it would be nice to be able to remove region coding and macrovision/copy protection from the dvd’s.

Most Music DVD’s have each some as a Chapter. You can use DVD Decrypter or SamrtRipper (both are good) that can actually rip out each Chapter only and Demux then audio & video to individual files. No re-encoding, exctly the quality of the original. Repeat untill you have all the clip[s you wanted. Then use Meastro, DVDLab or TMPGenc DVD Author to author them to a DVD set of VOB files ready to burn out. You can make a simple Memu in each to help with selection during playback Assuming it ends up under 4,37gig then just burn them with Nero or whatever. If its to big, either take another clip out or use Shrink or DVD2One or what ever to reduce it down ro size to fit. This will lower the quality of the Video, but not the audio.

Much the same for porn, the “action” bits tend to be Chapter related also, well so I’ve been told :stuck_out_tongue:

Great thread. Here’s my dellimma. I have a lot of porn on video tape because I tend to rent a DVD and then I save the stuff I like. The problem that I have is this collection is getting pretty big. I recently moved and I had 7 small boxes of vcr tapes. I told the movers that they were videos of my my favorite soap operas. I don’t think they believed me.

I looked at the files on a DVD and they don’t say the name of what you are trying to record it’s just a bunch of files. How do I know which ones to burn to get the scene I want.

Also, if you burn just one scene to a DVD, can you go back and add more like a I could on a 6 hour video tape?

I see two technical problems…both difficult to work around:

  1. Are you breaking a forum rule here? That is, copying rented movies is not approved of here.

  2. A 6 hour dvd of selected scenes is gonna cause some blisters…like big time. Dunno how you can do that? You need another hobby, or else tell us the secret buddy!

Copying of rented DVD is illegal. Please do not discuss this on the forum:cop:

Alan1476 - I think the law is if you record it (dvd) in its entirety you have broken violated copyright rules. If you only record parts, I don’t think you are breaking any laws. Unless the rules have changed in the last few years, I think I’m correct.

I’ll look for a reference.

Thanks for your assistance.

The company that made the dvd hold all the legal rights meaning a part of a video or the whole dvd itself either way this is wrong but if you legally own the product then that’s a different story.

I would tend to agree with both you and Alan on this one.

You may be right on this one zippyzoe, if I was incorrect, I stand corrected. I will have to find out, for my own knowledge, thankyou for explaining.:iagree:

Yes, I too would be interested in reading it if you find a reference or two, Alan

Perhaps philamber or Da_Taxman could give an opinion or two.

I am trying to find out Arachne, just for my own knowledge, maybe just a clip is okay, but maybe its not. I am brainstorming now. I think the laws might change from country to country, so this might take awhile.:iagree: But you are right maybe philamber or Da_Taxman would know this answer right away.

Yeah, Fair Use doesn’t mean you can copy bits and pieces of something. It’s a test applied to the use of something. You can show a small portion of a video in a class for educational purposes, for example, and that’s legal. But copying a rental to save/archive for your personal viewing wouldn’t fly as fair use.

If you OWN the product(s) and are making a compilation for your personal use, that’s fine AFAIK.

Nicely said. You appear to have a genuine feel for the law.

However, none of that applies to zippyzoe who seeks to make compilations of clips taken from rented dvds, in each case an infringement of copyright (which applies to whole and each part of the “artistic” work).

Since this is a very old thread that has been revived by zippyzoe to ask for advice that would be illegal, there’s no point in the thread remaining open so I’ll close it now.
