Karol Józef Wojtyła born Wadowice Poland May 18, 1920 - died Vatican City April 2, 2005 elected Pope John Paul II in 1978. He was the first non-Italian pope in 455 years and the only pope of Slavic origin. Most of us, without regard to faith or nationality, believe he can proudly say: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” Saint Paul the Apostle (II Timothy 4:7).

i’m an atheist, but offer my respects to a great man who did many many wonderful things for this world and its people. although i may not have agreed with some of his views (and don’t necessarily like the Catholic church at all despite being raised r.catholic and confirmed), this guy deserves respect for a well-lived life.
