For comparison I ran the same quality check on a pressed DVD-5

I’m using 1.14 firmware. For some reason K-Tools won’t work for me, it ignores my Aopen drive and crashes with the Pioneer.

I would not compare pressed DVD and dvd-+r. Meaningless
Never run PI/PIF test at max speed. You’ll end up with bad results. 4x is the standard for Kprobe and that’s what I’m using for cd/dvd speed (don’t have a lite-on burner).

Not sure to understand your point.
Do you want to say the pio 108 is bad?
Do you want to know if your pio unit is bad?
Do you want to know if your media’s crap?
Have you tested other disks burned with your unit?

btw, what was the burning speed? (I’m not sure you have 8x media)

Thanks for the reply

I’m saying it’s bad, compared to the results I’ve seen posted by others and I’m wondering why. The reason I did the DVD-5 (also run at max speed) was to show that it wasn’t the reader giving spurious results.

It’s 8x media that I burned at 8x.

I have no other media to try.

What I’m a little confused about is how much these test results matter. The disc reads just fine and pretty fast too, so what difference does it make if the PI/PIF results are poor?

Take time to read forum about media test and what they mean.
In one sentence, you can only compare test results if the test is performed on the same unit, same software, same speed, etc. Again, this will be a comparison. It will not mean that the worst disk will not play.
Another good test to do is the transfer rate. Faster results.

I had result similar to what you’ve posted and this disk was perfectly playing in my brother’s samsung player.

Again, take time to burn and test different media. You will certaintly find the one that will do it for you.

Did you test the same disk at 4x?
I’d like to see the difference.
