PMA failed to upgrade error

Hi, sorry to ask such a basic question but my dvd-ram burner is not working properly. When I try to burn movies onto dvd disc, the burn process will fail and a message on will pop up saying that PMA failed to upgrade. I have tried many media like most people would recommend doing but it still have the same problem. Another problem that I have notice is that my dvd-rom is that when I enter the folder my computer, two dvd-rom drive will show up, one is the actual dvd drive (which is Matshita Dvd-ram UJ-820S) and the other one will say Generic dvd-ram. I have no clue why this happened. I have been using Nero Burning Rom version 6 ever since I got my laptop. This problem did not occurr until a few months after I bought my laptop. This is what happens when I burn any dvd. First the percentage will move to 2% complete and then the drive will stop and the message burning failed will show up. Nero has gather some information about this problem.

This is the message:

Can someone please help me and fix this problem.

That’s a good start, but have you tried writing on Taiyo Yuden?

Unfortunately this drive has been branded appalling by most people owning it. Have you tried updating the firmware?

Are you using Daemon Tools, Nero Image drive or Virtual Clone drive? They will add another “virtual” DVD-Rom to “My Computer”
Can you update your version of nero to the latest?

This disc isn’t being burnt at all. It is failing before it starts burning. The 2% is generally where the 80MB is filled. Aka 80MB/4GB = 2%ish.

I will refer to some bloke on another forum.

Thank you for answering my question. So far I have download DVDinfoadvert and check my drive. The firmware that my drive currently has is 1.70. I have check a couple of firmware sites which do have some firm update for my drive. I have download the updates but just don’t know where put it. Can someone direct me to where I am suppose to put the new firmware?
