This is PlexTolls successor and is ablity to quality scan, FW autoupdate and more. This SW is bundled with new drive PX-Q840U. Any chance that SW support 755/760 drive??

We don’t know yet. Why start a new thread when we already have this:

Not much info out there about this new PlexUtilities, I am curious about it also.

#4

Currently PlexUtilities is nowhere available for download. If Plextor follows their usual way, the original will only be distributed with drives while updates only will be available on their web page.

As for what exactly PlexUtilities will be, here are some guesses:

Plextools LE renamed and extended with the necessary code to handle the new drives. This would IMHO make sense since PlexUtilities offers much the same of what is announced, for example for Q-Check functionality. So why do all new code when much of it is already in place? The new name might be to distinguish against the commercial version that Plextools XL was.

An updated and enhanced version of Kprobe? Seems unlikely since Kprobe is very much stagnant when it comes to functionality. Also Kprobe was never an official liteon offering AFAIK.

An updated and enhanced version of DVDScan 0.04? This one looked very promising but sadly never saw further development.

BEHOLD: PlexUtilities

http://www.plextor.com/english/products/Plexutilities.html

Wow! Looks like an all new program!

However scanning features are somewhat reduced:

Measure the block error rate for burned disc
* CD : C1/C2
* DVD : PI/PIE
* BD : LDC/BIS

JITTER Measurement
* Measure the jitter level for burned disc

TE/FE Measurement
* Measure the radial noise (tracking error and focusing error) of the disc
* Usually for new blank disc

So no more Asymetry/Beta and TA-Tests.

Hmmm… the supported drives are not listed. I wonder if PlexUTILITIES will work with the older Sanyo chipset drives or only with the newer drives?

#7

:Z

:a

#8

I can confirm the original drives with Sanyo electronics are not supported. I get the same error with a 760A. However, no surprise there, since PlexTools hasn’t stopped working for those drives.

Also the C1/C2 graphs remind me a lot of LiteONs K-Probe.

#9

Will not recognize the 760A.

Disappointing it is.

#10

Version 1.1.3 is already out > http://www.plextor.com/english/support/downloads/PlexUtilSetup1.1.3.zip

#11

Unfortunately 1.1.3. does not work with the PX-760 either (same error message).

But now there is a help file

Edit:

Interesting new function:

IOP indicates the percentage of decay of laser diode (LD) in the drive.

Clicking the link to start the measurement. After the measurement, the results will be shown as below.

(Percentage results are shown)

That was a feature in one version of KProbe2 as well- it was removed later. It was a bit flaky, though- the results depended on whether you did the test after a reboot or later. I’ll see if I can dig up a link.

G
I would be interested in that. Do you have that version by chance?

#14

I found the link. It all starts here in the KProbe2 thread.

It showed up in version 2.3.2 (don’t know how long it stayed).

Ian keeps a number of older versions available at CDRLabs. Have a look here: http://www.cdrlabs.com/Archives/

I Wonder How Long It Will Be Before A Clever Dick Unlocks PlexUTILITES
So It Can Work With Most Mediatek Chipset Drives?

P.s Anybody Got Any Screenshots Of PlexUTILITES In Action?

There are a lot of pictures in the helpfile.

Thanks hwp

I Like What I See (Colourful & Seem To Be Well Laid Out GUI)
But I Doubt If I’ll See Any New Plextor’s Reach Australian Shores.

Hope I’m Wrong.

I Wonder If I Created A Virtual Drive Called “PLEXTOR DVDR PX-806SA” I Could Get It To Run?..Lol

Of Course It Wouldn’t Be Much Use Without A Real (Lite-On) Plextor. :frowning:

PlexUTILITIES won’t work with the older Plextor drives and Sanyo chipset drives, because the commands are different and there is a protection.
