Thanks for new tests Vroom
Is the cd burning quality improved with the newer firmware - 1.06 or 1.03
In your review the quality of cd burning was poor with firmware 1.02

@wc2wc

I’ll try to burn some cd’s with the latest firmware and post the results.

Here we go, another Ritek BD disc, and it should be one of 10 last discs.

How did you manage to do DVD quality scans with the PX-LB950SA?

#10

You need to remove the plextor name from the block list that cd/dvd speed has, so that it can allow you to perform quality scans.

You can also read the Samsung FAQ on how to enable this. Again you will have to remove the Plextor name and you should be done.

#11

Thx - I was sure that I removed it there some days ago.
But it is possible that it was on another computer.

Still fighting with ODC - but it seems so whether it does not want to scan CDR and DVD with the ‘LiteOn’-Plextors (only BluRays).
Really pity. I hope that there will be soon an update to solve this problem.

Nero works now with the Plextor - but it does not do jitter scanning (neither for cd nor for dvd). Is this again something I have to change in the registry?

Here are the results of a CD-burn @max speed:

Did you click the advanced button and mark the Jitter option for DVD’s?
Also keep in mind that no liteon DVD drive can report Jitter on CD’s, only benq and plextor (7xx) drives can do that.

Not sure, but when I open it now, when there is no disc in the drive then all components are disabled - nothing i can check.

What are PlexUtilities and LtnFlash reporting? No real values?
The PX-L890 is reporting pretty high values - I just contacted Plextor.
So you want to tell me that this is normal since unreliable?

#15

Without any disc on the drive you should be able to select the Jitter value.
They are very unreliable, as you can see it show some strange values, my advice is that if you need CD scanning you need to get a 7xx Plextor, a Benq or a LiteON CD-RW. I personally dont have much faith in the results that liteon (and liteon based) drives show when it come to CD’s.

#16

I checked this some minutes ago and did several scans.
As long as this option is checked I get at the end of the scan always an
’no additional sense information’.

I hate CD-Speed for that. Same problem when I try to scan with a BenQ E162I - only that it does not start the scan - only reporting that error.

Edit:
The PX-L890SA does not do the dvd jitter scan - but I do not get an error like with the PX-LB950SA.

#17

CDspeed will not report Jitter on CD’s it only reports jitter on DVD’s.

Unfortunately i dont have my plextor drive install so i can check again how it reacts to cd speed, you can always use the plexutilities that came with the plextor drive, that should give an idea how the drive is performing on cd’s and you wont have to deal with cd speed.

If i have some free time i will try to install the plextor drive on my system and run some tests.

#18

I just edited my last post.
So I was too slow or you were too lazy.

The reason why I wanted to use CDspeed was that i wanted similar looks for all drives.
And since ODC doesnt support CD and DVD scanning on these Plextors I tried again to use CDspeed.
