Plextor DVDR 708a Self-Destruct

[qanda]This thread is about the Plextor DVD-Recorder - PX-504A. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Actually, its a 708a. I noticed some time back I could no longer play a DVD from this unit. More recently I tried to import a new CD into my iTunes library. Shortly after it began the process, the PC shut down and rebooted. I chalked it up to some kind of copy guard on the CD.

Most recently the same shut down occurred while I was trying to burn a CD on a playlist I’ve copied before. As an experiment I tried to rip a CD using Windows Media Player and experienced the same results. So I’m guessing its a problem with the drive. Any ideas?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum.

Before assuming your problem is caused by your Plextor PX-708A Optical Drive perhaps you might want to review the CDFreaks CD and DVD Burners Read First posting titled “Troubleshooting: Drive messed up? Check your PSU quality first! ->
