Thank you very much for the info, it’s appreciated. I did fire up ImgBurn just now, clicked the icon for Advanced settings, and instead of the Plextor tab I selected the Lite-On tab and decided to enable everything, and it says the Force Hypertuning, Online Hypertuning, Overspeed, and SmartBurn (which was enabled by default; the other options were disabled) are now fully enabled. I’m guessing this is a good thing?
I have some idea what the options are for, but not a detailed explanation so I suppose more searching for answers continues. The Plextor tab shows AutoStrategy (disabled) and PowerRec (disabled) and attempting to alter them to enabled fails and no changes go into effect, so I guess this truly is a Lite-On rebadged drive. Interesting…
Again, thanks for the reply, it’s useful information. I made a test DVD using ODC just after making that post above, using another Ritek F16 (burned at 12x instead of 16x like that scan above was done and taken from the same spindle as the previous DVD+R) and I swear, it’s horrible when I did a quality scan using ODC. Results below so, I don’t know, I hope the changes I just made will improve the burns but, as long as I can read the data I can’t ask for more than that I guess.
Seems truly odd that a 12x burn of the same media would turn so horribly bad compared to a 16x burn - basic logic suggests (at least to me) that a 16x burn would be more prone to such errors, go figure. Maybe this drive is better suited (with this Ritek media) at 16x as it’s branded, who knows.
