Please help I’m loosing my hair and:
I bought a PX-760SA about a week ago and I still haven’t been able to burn a DVD. I can burn cd’s but every DVD I have tried gets messed up.
I started out trying Nero v.6.?? I got a “Bad Command” error and the computer shut down. The disk was ruined. It never even started writing.
I also tried PlexTools. I didn’t get an error, but the computer shut down, ruining the disk.
Then I updated the drivers for the chipset and grahics card, as you can see below. I also installed a new Nero version. Now it can write for 2-3 min., then the LED starts flashing and I have to reboot to get the disk out.
In the Windows system log I get a (translated from danish):
eventtype: error
eventsource: viamraid
The device \Device\Scsi\viamraid1 didn’t answer within the timeout period

This error occurs everytime I try burning.

Here is a description of my system and drivers:

  • I have attached a Nero log

My system:
Motherboard: ASRock P4V88
Chipset: VIA VT8237
Grapichs: GeForce FX5500

DVD-disks: Verbatim 16x DVD-R

Try the self test with recommended media. If it passes you have a system problem.

#3

I’m guessing the problems lie with the VIA SATA controller, or the VIA drivers.

Thanks!
I’m waiting for a new shipment of media, so I can’t test it right now.
What should I do about the drivers? I already installed the latest VIA drivers.

CdRomPeripheral : PLEXTOR DVDR PX-760A 1.05 viamraid Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : PLEXTOR DVDR PX-760A atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off

You had “DMA: Off”. Maybe the firmware update restored it. In any event, check out this guide: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616 (you’ll probably have to uninstall the IDE Channel in Device Manager to get out of PIO Mode into UDMA4 if it happens again).
Before you do anything upgrade your firmware to the 1.06 version, it cured the problem for me.

Thanks a lot. I just returned the drive and decided to wait for a complete computer upgrade.
